Position: Paralegal Manager

Reports to: Chief Practice Management Officer

Position Summary

The Paralegal Manager is responsible for leading and managing the firms paralegals across designated offices. This role ensures the effective utilization, productivity, and professional development of paralegals and paralegal supervisors. The Paralegal Manager will oversee recruiting, training, workflow coordination, budgeting, and performance management to maintain high standards of service and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

- Leadership & Oversight

- Direct and manage paralegals across multiple offices.

- Establish departmental structure, including billing requirements, overtime approvals, and role definitions.

- Serve as liaison between attorneys, paralegals, and staff to resolve staffing needs and workflow issues.

- Recruitment & Onboarding

- Recruit, interview, and hire paralegal staff as needed.

- Develop and implement onboarding programs and training manuals for paralegals.

- Training & Development

- Design and oversee orientation, continuing education, and mentoring programs.

- Promote professional growth and skill development within the department.

- Performance & Productivity Management

- Monitor paralegal productivity, billable hours, and generate realization reports.

- Conduct performance evaluations and manage compensation administration.

- Policy & Process Improvement

- Recommend policy and procedural changes to senior leadership.

- Develop and maintain strong processes to ensure efficiency and compliance.

Education & Experience

- Education: Bachelors degree required.

- Experience:

- Minimum 10 years of paralegal experience.

- At least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role overseeing paralegals.

- Proven success in a professional services environment with client interface preferred.

- Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to handle changing priorities under pressure.

- Familiarity with legal team workflows and law firm operations.

- Understanding of law firm accounting and finance principles.

- Proficiency in legal technology, word processing, and workflow systems (e.g., iManage).

- Ability to travel to assigned offices as needed.
