Position Overview:
The Assistant Operations Manager plays a vital support role to the Operations Manager by ensuring day-to-day warehouse functions operate smoothly, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards for safety, quality, and performance.
This position is ideal for a hands-on leader with a strong understanding of inbound, outbound, inventory, and quality operations, looking to grow into higher-level leadership responsibilities while maintaining strong floor presence and team engagement.
Essential Job Functions:
- Support the daily execution of warehouse operations including receiving, picking, shipping, inventory accuracy, and quality assurance.
- Assist in monitoring and managing KPIs such as order accuracy, on-time shipments, inventory variance, and labor productivity.
- Help oversee warehouse associates and team leads to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate work practices.
- Coordinate shift coverage, monitor attendance, and help manage scheduling to support daily operational needs.
- Train and mentor team members on SOPs, safety practices, and quality standards.
- Lead, mentor, and implement training and certification program with partnership of the Operations Manager including ramp up for new hires and transfers within the warehouse.
- Lead equipment training certifications and cross training functions for warehouse.
- Partner with the Operations Manager and cross-functional teams (Quality, HR, IT, Purchasing) to troubleshoot operational issues and drive continuous improvement.
- Participate in audits, cycle counts, and inventory investigations.
- Act as a liaison between leadership and warehouse teams to ensure clear communication, consistency, and engagement.
- Serve as acting manager in the absence of the Operations Manager.
- Support facilities upkeep and equipment maintenance by coordinating with vendors and building leadership.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence aligned with Waldom’s values of Care, Communication, and Ownership.
- Assist with project exploration and execution.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3+ years of warehouse or distribution center experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of warehouse processes including inbound, outbound, inventory control, and quality.
- Familiarity with ERP or WMS systems; ability to learn and leverage data for process improvement.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead with empathy, provide coaching, and address performance concerns constructively.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Forklift certified (or willing to obtain certification).
- A passion for service excellence and continuous improvement.
- Strong attention to detail and ownership of responsibilities.
- The ability to build trust, give feedback, and support a team through change.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, or a related field.
- Previous experience in ISO-regulated or safety-focused environments.
- Confidence in making decisions when urgency or ambiguity arises.
- Previous track record of career development for front line leaders.
- Previous equipment training of warehouse personnel.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift items up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to alternate sitting, walking and standing up to 10 hours per day
Working Conditions:
- Warehouse environment with moderate noise from power industrial trucks
