What you'll be doing

You'll join CIBC's Technology team and help build the applications and services that power secure, reliable, and client-focused digital experiences. As a Consultant, Java Back End Developer, you'll play a hands-on role in designing, developing, and implementing enterprise-scale Java-based solutions across a range of business and technology domains. You'll contribute deep technical expertise to back-end application development, systems integration, and modern engineering practices, while helping deliver scalable solutions on current and emerging platforms. In this role, you'll also support the evolution of our technology landscape, including cloud-based capabilities, and collaborate with partners across the organization to deliver high-quality outcomes.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

- Design and development - Lead API design by analyzing business requirements and following high level design. Lead API development following the right design patterns and best practices. Be good at coding complex system and business logic in an effective way. Be good at modern development concepts and processes, both understanding and practice.
- Continuous improvement -  Be the advocate for continuous improvement in both processes and best practices. Firm believer in quality of work and high productivity. Be able to bring a positive influence to the team you work with. Having the right understanding of modern technology and modern development culture is an asset.
- Operational efficiency -  Lead next level support for operational activities. Be good at problem solving, troubleshooting and have sound understanding of performance tuning
- Mentorship skills - Be able to coach junior developers in the team and provide technical guidance

Who you are

- You can demonstrate experience in:  Java/J2EE, Spring/Springboot, Web Services (SOAP, JSON and RESTFul). Proven and solid hands-on experiences in Microservices and API development in an enterprise environment. It is an asset if you are familiar with Agile methodologies and Cloud environments (Kubernetes, Azure/OCP or equivalent)
