About the Role

Come join the Mortgage Lending Team as a Junior Mortgage Loan Officer! This is an entry-level lending position designed to develop future Mortgage Loan Officers through structured training, mentorship, and hands-on experience. Working closely with the Real Estate Manager and senior lending staff, the JMLO assists with loan origination activities, customer relationship management, and loan pipeline support while building the knowledge and skills necessary to independently originate residential mortgage loans. The Junior Mortgage Loan Officer will participate in a comprehensive development program focused on mortgage products, regulatory compliance, loan origination, sales techniques, and relationship management. As experience and proficiency increase, responsibilities will expand to include independent business development and loan production activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assist customers with the mortgage application process and gather required documentation

- Set up and maintain loan files to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely processing

- Conduct preliminary borrower interviews and assist with customer pre-qualification activities

- Support Mortgage Loan Officers and management in preparing loan applications for underwriting review

- Monitor loan pipelines and communicate status updates to borrowers, processors, and referral partners

- Coordinate with processors, underwriters, closing agents, and other stakeholders to facilitate timely loan closings

- Review loan documentation for completeness and accuracy

- Assist with automated underwriting submissions and system updates

- Prepare loan-related materials, financing scenarios, and customer information packets as approved by Compliance

- Maintain accurate records and activity tracking within bank systems

- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers throughout the loan process

- Respond to customer inquiries regarding mortgage products, application status, and documentation requirements

- Deliver exceptional customer service while building trust and long-term relationships

- Assist with maintaining relationships with referral partners, including real estate agents, builders, and other business contacts

- Support branch mortgage growth initiatives through customer outreach, networking, and referral generation

- Participate in community events, sales meetings, and business development activities

- Assist in identifying opportunities for cross-selling mortgage products through branch partnerships

- Gradually develop a referral network of real estate professionals, builders, and community contacts under management guidance

- Contribute to departmental production and service goals as experience and licensing requirements permit

- Participate in mentoring, coaching, and job-shadowing opportunities with experienced Mortgage Loan Officers

- Complete all required mortgage lending, compliance, and product training programs

- Participate in mentoring, coaching, and job-shadowing opportunities with experienced Mortgage Loan Officers

- Develop knowledge of mortgage products, underwriting guidelines, investor requirements, and lending regulations

- Learn effective sales, networking, and business development strategies

- Work toward achieving individual development milestones and production goals established by management

During the first 12 months in position, the Junior Mortgage Loan Officer is expected to:

- Complete all required mortgage lending and compliance training.

- Develop proficiency in loan origination systems and mortgage technology platforms.

- Learn conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, and portfolio lending products.

- Demonstrate increasing ability to independently manage customer interactions and loan applications.

- Build foundational referral and networking skills.

- Progress toward independent loan production responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Regular and predictable attendance in order to accomplish, among other things, in-person contact with customers, both internal and external.

- Represent FCBU in a professional manner which includes a professional image, confidentiality, a positive “can-do” attitude, punctuality, flexibility, and adaptability in meeting bank and customer needs. Keep work area tidy and maintain customer privacy.

- Responsible for timely completion of all required compliance and security training implemented by GBCI and FCBU.

- Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to: the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control

- Adhere and support the FCBU Values & Purpose, with a professional appearance and attitude.

- Keeps management appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems

- Provide superior internal and external customer service: must demonstrate self-governance, courtesy and respect towards external customers as well as internal customers (all organization personnel).

- Professionally answer phones within a timely manner, greeting all customers, learning their names, discussing reasonable solutions by having a solid understanding of bank products and services, demonstrating leadership to resolve customer issues and provide relevant assistance while being courteous and respectful.

- Attends and participates in weekly or bi-weekly One-on-Ones, as well as meeting and trainings as required. Promote behaviors to support and track Key Performance Indicators

About You

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Two years of customer service, banking, retail sales, financial services, or residential lending experience

- Experience in mortgage lending, banking, real estate, or consumer finance is preferred

SCHEDULE:

- Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:

- High School Diploma or GED

First Community Bank of Utah will conduct a credit and background screening as a part of the pre-hire process.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS:

- Possess a valid Driver's License

- Registered (or the ability to obtain registration) as an active Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) on the NMLS site. Must renew registration each year and update when changes to name, address, etc. occur.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

- Primarily at a desk in a climate controlled environment. Regular travel to FCBU branches will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job, as well as the proper licensing to drive.

Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Occassionally may require lifting of up-to 20 lbs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation/inspection of machines and/or using measurement devices at distances close to the eyes.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Starting salary is dependent upon relevant experience and may vary based on the geographic location of the position.
