EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or related field is required. Six(6) to Seven(7) years of workers’ compensation claims handling experience, with prior supervisory, mentoring, or team lead experience required, including at least two (2) years in complex and/or litigated claims required. Demonstrates strong understanding of workers’ compensation laws, medical management, and return-to-work strategies. Demonstrates leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with claims management systems and Microsoft Office applications required. Experience with Origami preferred. Directly related work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of the educational requirement.

SUMMARY
Leads a team of claims professionals in the Office of Risk Management while maintaining responsibility for a personal inventory of workers’ compensation claims, including complex and litigated files. This role combines advanced technical claims expertise with leadership responsibilities and is well suited for a hands-on leader who can effectively balance operational oversight, staff development, and direct claim management. Serves as a technical resource for the team, assists with escalated claim issues, and ensures high-quality claim outcomes in compliance with jurisdictional requirements and company standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises and directs the daily activities of workers' compensation adjusters by assigning claims equitably, providing technical guidance, reviewing claim files, and ensuring quality, timely, and compliant claim handling.
- Manages a reduced caseload of lost-time, litigated, and complex workers' compensation claims, including investigations, compensability determinations, reserve management, and claim resolution.
- Oversees claim performance by monitoring productivity, diary management, closure ratios, reserve accuracy, documentation, and compliance with jurisdictional requirements and company standards.
- Serves as the primary resource and escalation point for complex, litigated, high-exposure, client, and vendor issues, partnering with defense counsel as needed.
- Coordinates medical treatment, return-to-work initiatives, disability management strategies, and maintains effective communication with injured workers, employers, attorneys, medical providers, and internal stakeholders.
- Assists with staff onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management to promote employee development and operational excellence.
- Prepares and analyzes operational reports and performance metrics, and coordinates quarterly reserve reviews with Risk, Legal, and Accounting.
- Participates in client meetings, stewardship reviews, audits, and other activities that support customer service and operational effectiveness.
- Supports departmental goals, strategic initiatives, and continuous process improvement efforts to enhance claims operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including Transit Ambassador assignments.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises, mentors, and supports a team of Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjusters/Examiners.
