Job Summary: The SBHC Youth Program Intern will facilitate and support two Student Health Advisory Councils (SHAC) at Virginia Garcia operated SBHCs. In partnership with the SHACs and the SBHC Youth Coordinator, the intern will support the development and execution of projects on mental health and wellness topics. Travel in Washington County and occasionally in Yamhill County is a vital component of this position. This is a temporary position, scheduled to follow the academic year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Partner with youth in planning and implementing activities (i.e. photo voice projects, surveying, community outreach, hallway health campaigns, speaker series, etc.) that promote mental and physical health, improve health literacy, and decrease barriers for student access to services.
• Partner with the SBHC Youth Coordinator to facilitate regular meetings with assigned SHACs and provide regular updates to the SBHC team on group activity.
• Collaborate with SBHC Youth Coordinator to develop SHAC activities and programming.
• Recruit students and staff to participate in the SHAC.
• Maintain records of SHAC participation and activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
HIPAA Requirements:
The SBHC Youth Program Intern must handle protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). This position may have access to PHI in the course of their duties. The SBHC Youth Coordinator is required to read the content of these records only to the extent needed to accomplish the assigned task.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Proficiency with Microsoft office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and database software.
• Proficiency with popular social media platforms.

• Bilingual English/Spanish language skills (speaking, reading and writing) preferred.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, safe driving record and insurance coverage required.
• Ability to travel to multiple locations within Washington and Yamhill counties and work flexible hours.
Education and Experience:
• Pursuing training/education in health promotion, public health, education, community advocacy or related field.
• Experience with group facilitation is strongly preferred.
• Experience with project planning and implementation, preferred.
• Experience working with adolescents in group and/or school settings preferred.
