Position Summary
Hometown Mechanical is looking for an experienced Lead Drain Cleaning Technician to join our growing team in the Davenport, IA area. This is a hands-on lead position for an experienced drain cleaning professional who can confidently diagnose and clear residential and commercial drainage issues while providing excellent customer service.
The Lead Drain Cleaning Technician will take ownership of drain-cleaning calls from start to finish, operate professional drain-cleaning equipment, identify plumbing and drainage issues, and help guide and train less-experienced technicians. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, mechanically skilled, and comfortable working directly with customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform residential and commercial drain-cleaning service calls.
- Diagnose clogged, slow, or backed-up drains and determine the appropriate solution.
- Operate drain-cleaning equipment including snakes, sectional machines, and sewer jetters .
- Clear kitchen, bathroom, floor, mainline, and sewer drains.
- Perform sewer and drain inspections using camera equipment when needed.
- Identify potential issues such as damaged, collapsed, or obstructed sewer lines.
- Provide customers with clear explanations of problems and recommended solutions.
- Maintain a professional and courteous relationship with customers.
- Assist with estimating and communicating repair or replacement recommendations.
- Lead, train, and mentor junior drain-cleaning technicians.
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to company standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked service vehicle.
- Properly maintain drain-cleaning equipment and report equipment needs.
- Complete service documentation, job notes, and required paperwork.
- Follow all company safety policies and applicable plumbing codes.
- Work collaboratively with the plumbing and HVAC service teams when additional work is identified.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional drain-cleaning or plumbing service experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of residential and/or commercial drainage systems.
- Experience operating professional drain-cleaning equipment.
- Experience with sewer cameras and jetting equipment is a plus.
- Ability to diagnose drainage problems and determine appropriate solutions.
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Previous lead, trainer, or crew-lead experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work independently while also leading and supporting other technicians.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work in tight spaces and physically demanding environments.
- Willingness to work occasional overtime or participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
