General Description:
The Inpatient Pharmacist II is an experienced practitioner who provides advanced inpatient pharmacy services, including complex order verification, clinical assessment, and enhanced medication management responsibilities. This role demonstrates independent judgment in coordinating medication therapy, serves as a clinical resource to interdisciplinary teams, and mentors Inpatient Pharmacist I staff, students, and residents. The Inpatient Pharmacist II contributes to institutional goals related to safety, quality, cost optimization, and performance improvement while supporting specialized areas of practice or investigational drug activities as assigned.

Shared Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced review and verification of medication orders, applying expanded clinical judgment and interpreting complex patient-specific factors.
- Provide higher‑level sterile and non‑sterile compounding oversight, ensuring adherence to USP, state, and federal requirements while supporting more complex preparation needs.
- Identify and resolve clinically complex medication‑related problems through collaborative interactions with providers, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Lead medication distribution workflow optimization, troubleshooting operational issues, and ensuring efficient, safe medication delivery processes.
- Provide enhanced drug information support, including interpretation of specialty guidelines, evidence‑based resources, and therapeutic alternatives.
- Perform advanced medication reconciliation and deliver patient counseling for higher‑risk or more complex medication regimens.
- Document clinical interventions with expanded scope, including medication therapy recommendations, safety events, and therapeutic monitoring activities.
- Mentor and support the professional development of Inpatient Pharmacist I staff, pharmacy residents, and students.
- Contribute to departmental quality and medication‑safety initiatives, identifying opportunities for operational or clinical improvement.
- Support compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and institutional standards through adherence to established protocols and participation in readiness activities.
- Collaborate with nursing and physician leadership to optimize medication use processes and improve patient outcomes.
- Educate healthcare providers and pharmacy staff on medication‑related topics, formulary changes, and evidence‑based practice updates.
- Support cost‑savings and formulary‑optimization efforts through analysis of utilization patterns and promotion of appropriate medication selection.
Investigational Drug Studies (IDS) Pharmacist:
- Provide advanced oversight and coordination of investigational drug services across the organization, serving as a subject matter expert in regulatory and operational requirements.
- Evaluate protocol feasibility from a pharmacy perspective, offering guidance on resource needs, operational impact, and risk mitigation.
- Provide advanced mentorship and performance feedback to IDS Pharmacist I staff, residents, and technicians involved in research workflows.
- Deliver education to investigators, research coordinators, and clinicians on investigational product handling, protocol requirements, and best practices.
- Coordinate investigational drug supply management across inpatient, outpatient, and multi‑site study settings.
- Participate in research or scholarly activities such as protocol development, publications, or presentations.
Inpatient Pharmacist:
- Provide specialized clinical support in designated areas of practice (e.g., critical care, oncology, cardiology, pediatrics, emergency medicine).
- Perform advanced pharmacotherapy assessments during interdisciplinary rounds, including therapeutic drug monitoring, renal/hepatic adjustment, and high‑risk medication oversight.
- Lead or support resolution of medication access or availability issues and implement evidence‑based therapeutic alternatives.
- Coordinate and oversee complex medication distribution needs such as high‑alert medications, controlled substances, emergency medications, and automated dispensing cabinet optimization.
- Participate in advanced discharge planning for higher‑risk patients, ensuring safe transitions of care and appropriate follow‑up communication.
- Serve as a clinical and operational resource for frontline staff in managing unusual, emergent, or complex medication‑related situations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Pharmacy (D.Ph.) degree required.
Experience: At least 3 years of experience as a licensed pharmacist.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Licensure as a Pharmacist by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy required. Applicants without an active Oklahoma Pharmacist License must obtain licensure within 90 days of hire. Preceptor certification through the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy required within 18 months of hire
