Summary

JOB SUMMARY: Within the context of a patient, client, and family centred model of care and, in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff. Reporting to the Principal Investigator and Medical Director of the Momentum Study, the Research Nurse is responsible for reviewing research protocol and study design with Study Investigator(s) and establishing procedures for biological specimen collection, accessing results of laboratory tests for sexually transmitted and blood borne infections, and treating study participants who test positive for bacterial STIs in accordance with study protocols. Completes case report forms as needed, enters data into study database, and completes other study documentation. Will liaise with study staff for support and follow-up as needed. Will also need to provide some in-person specimen collection for some participants. Practices in accordance with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Standards.ORGANIZATIONThe BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS currently employs teams who work collaboratively on cohort-based epidemiological and clinical studies. The BC-CfE is a world-renowned HIV/AIDS research centre including Research Laboratory, Clinical Trials, Drug Treatment Program, Epidemiology and Professional Education Programs. The position will support collection of clinical information and specimens for the Momentum/Engage Study, a sexual health study of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men in Greater Vancouver. QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training and ExperienceRegistered Nurse with current practicing registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.One-year recent, related experience in providing sexual health services in a health care setting and experience working with sexual minority men in health care settings or community in a primary care, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Requires BCCNM Reproductive Health (Sexually Transmitted Infection) Certified Practice designation.Skills and Abilities•Demonstrated interest in clinical research. •Knowledge of clinical area of study. •Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. •Ability to work as a member in an interdisciplinary team. •Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills. •Ability to deal with others effectively. •Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. •Ability to prioritize and organize work. •Ability to operate related equipment. •Ability to use computers and standard office application.1.Reviews research protocol and study design with the Study Investigator(s) and Study Coordinator(s) and assists in developing standard operating procedures for nursing activities. 2.Supports department/program staff regarding current study visits and follows up to ensure compliance is maintained while participants are completing visits and acts as a resource to study participants s and colleagues on the study team. 3.Ensures that appropriate diagnostic tests have been completed per the study protocol. Provides pre and post test support to participants as applicable, which may include referral to other resources. 4.Collects blood samples, throat and rectal swabs as required by study protocol. 5.Maintains required records and other related documentation including entering laboratory test results in study database. Ensures study documents and procedures are up to regulatory standards. 6.Monitors, records, and reports adverse events which occur and reports to Principal/Study Investigator or other designated personnel in accordance with regulatory requirements/protocols. 7.Provides orientation regarding study and protocols to other staff as required. Liaises with other members of the study team regarding clinical issues, records and data management, protocol changes, etc. 8.Performs direct nursing care including physical assessment and administering medications and treatments, as applicable. 9.Adheres to Department/Program Research Standard Operating Procedures. 10.Advocates for the study participants to protect and promote their rights to dignity, respect, privacy, confidentiality, autonomy, and access to information. 11.Orders study supplies and ensures supplies are in stock.12.Performs other related duties as assigned.
