Job Summary
Langan is seeking a Senior Project Engineer/Manager - Mission Critical Water and Wastewater to support its growing national water practice. This individual will play a key leadership role in advancing data center water strategy initiatives nationwide, including leading due diligence evaluations, water supply strategy development, source water assessments, discharge strategy development, water reuse planning, and water strategy permitting and compliance for data center clients across the United States.
In this role, you will leverage Langan’s national technical resources and multidisciplinary expertise to lead complex regulatory programs, mentor staff across multiple regions, support national client accounts, and help drive the continued growth and innovation of Langan’s water and environmental compliance services. In addition, you will have the opportunity to partner cross-functionally with top industry leadership, fueling a developing Data Center practice, on a diverse array of premier land development projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead water due diligence efforts for data center developments, including source water availability assessments, utility coordination, capacity evaluations, and regulatory constraints analyses;
- Develop and implement water sourcing strategies utilizing municipal supplies, groundwater, surface water, reclaimed water, and alternative water resources across diverse regulatory environments;
- Evaluate and advance wastewater discharge strategies, including NPDES permitting, indirect discharge programs, land application, water reuse, collect and haul, and emerging management approaches;
- Coordinate with engineering teams on water and wastewater infrastructure planning, treatment system integration, conveyance requirements, and utility interface design;
- Provide technical and regulatory guidance on water treatment, wastewater treatment, cooling water systems, industrial wastewater management, and water reuse applications;
- Collaborate with utilities, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and client stakeholders to navigate complex water supply, wastewater, and permitting challenges;
- Lead water strategy development throughout the project lifecycle, from site selection and due diligence through permitting, construction, startup, and ongoing operations;
- Provide regulatory oversight for Safe Drinking Water Act compliance programs for utilities and industrial clients;
- Lead national response efforts for Notices of Violation (NOVs), corrective actions, enforcement negotiations, and regulatory inspections at the local, state, and federal levels;
- Support treatability studies, system upgrades, startup, retrofits, and optimization of drinking water and wastewater treatment systems;
- Lead and support proposal development, including scope preparation, fee development, teaming strategies, and project execution planning;
- Manage project delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, invoicing, change management, and overall financial performance;
- Identify and pursue strategic growth opportunities with existing and prospective clients while supporting business development initiatives within the water and environmental compliance practices;
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across multiple Langan offices to deliver integrated water, environmental, and infrastructure solutions;
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients, regulators, contractors, attorneys, and other project stakeholders, and
- Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary, multi-office teams supporting projects nationwide.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or closely related field. Master’s degree preferred;
- 12+ years of experience in the environmental field, with a minimum of 5 years working as a project manager in a consulting environment;
- Professional certification or on track to obtain (e.g.: PE, CHMM);
- Working knowledge of water/wastewater treatment technologies, mission critical water needs and challenges, and Federal and state environmental regulations and obligations related to water use and discharge;
- Willingness and ability to effectively engage in business development activities including identifying new client opportunities, attending conferences and industry events, and working closely with local leadership across the state to cross sell services and grow the compliance practice.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple clients, projects and staff across the US;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
- Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and,
- Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
Pay Range $117,000 — $171,000 USD
