Job Description

Summary of Position

Provide leadership for the University in securing external funds to support institutional mission, functions and strategic priorities. Responsible for identifying, planning, facilitating, composing and managing proposals for academic programs, research, sponsored programs, capital projects and sponsorship requests through corporate and foundation relationships. This person is responsible for maintaining internal and external relationships in efforts to facilitate and enhance this work.

Primary Responsibilities

Institutional Partnerships

- Identify, cultivate, and solicit funds from local and national corporations and foundations
- Secure sponsorships and grants to achieve annual fundraising goals. 
- Work closely with the Senior Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs, the Associate Vice President and Vice President for Institutional Advancement to map and implement an integrated institutional giving program.
- Develop and execute an annual solicitation plan for a portfolio of external funders; schedule and solicit portfolio through written proposals, personal contact and other correspondence.
- Identify and implement giving program strategies in order to broaden and deepen institutional support.
- Work with other departments to invite program officers and other representatives from government and foundation sources to relevant University events and programs.
- Act as University liaison with institutional donors, including local, state and national funders, corporations and foundations. Manage solicitations with major institutional donors.
- Represent Augsburg at meetings with external partners and stakeholders as required to plan, implement and evaluate inter-departmental grant-funded projects. 
- Utilize the President, Board of Regents and other key partners to make connections for the University.

Administration

- Conduct research, follow up on leads and coordinate solicitation of prospects for new support.
- Read reporting requirements and write/edit interim and final reports to external funders.
- Support colleagues and board members on annual fund solicitations.
- Track information about institutional donors and relationships, generating institutional giving status reports.
- Develop and maintain an archive containing proposal materials and University data.
- Analyze and track current contribution sources to cultivate and solicit funds.
- Utilize Raisers Edge to track progress and prospects as well as write and maintain contact reports.

Additional Responsibilities

- Serve on institutional leadership groups, task forces, and committees as assigned.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the internal and external University community.
- Other duties as assigned in line with the goals of the division and the mission of the institution.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

- Typical work environment is an office, working at a desk for long periods of time.
- Regular phone and computer use.
- Occasional long or irregular hours, including occasional evening and weekend hours.
- Some travel as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in institutional fundraising; identifying donors, managing and developing relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s degree preferred.
- Professional experience in higher education. 
- Familiarity with the Advancement databases; preferably Raisers Edge.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize.
- Knowledge of direct mail, basic event management, non-profit finance and development principles and practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office® suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Workspace suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc).
- Ability to exercise professional courtesy and discretion, maintaining confidentiality and privacy.

Additional Information

Compensation and Benefits at Augsburg

- The compensation range is $80,000 - $86,000 per year, DOQ.
