Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree, plus 6 months of relevant experience.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is obtainable within a reasonable amount of time after hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
Position Overview
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support the long-term sustainment of a fire control system by identifying and mitigating hardware obsolescence risks. In this role, you will assess the system-level impact of unavailable or end-of-life components, evaluate replacement options, and help implement changes that preserve required performance, reliability, safety, and supportability.
Responsibilities
- Monitor hardware lifecycle status and identify components at risk of obsolescence.
- Maintain an obsolescence risk register covering affected parts, system configurations, inventory, projected demand, and decision timelines.
- Analyze how proposed substitutions or redesigns affect system requirements, interfaces, software dependencies, reliability, and maintainability.
- Develop and document mitigation options, such as qualified alternate parts, last-time buys, repair solutions, module redesigns, and planned technology refreshes.
- Lead or contribute to trade studies evaluating technical risk, cost, schedule, availability, and verification effort.
- Define requirements and verification approaches for replacement hardware.
- Coordinate with hardware and software engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, reliability, and program management teams.
- Support configuration management and change-control activities, including updates to technical documentation and parts lists.
- Communicate risks, recommendations, and implementation status to program stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Experience in systems engineering, hardware engineering, or product sustainment.
- Ability to analyze requirements, interfaces, and the system-level effects of hardware changes.
- Experience evaluating technical alternatives and documenting engineering decisions.
- Familiarity with configuration management, verification planning, and risk management.
- Strong written communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hardware obsolescence or diminishing manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS).
- Familiarity with electronic component lifecycles, bills of materials, supplier data, and product lifecycle management tools.
- Experience supporting complex, safety-critical, or long-life systems.
- Experience planning qualification activities for component substitutions or hardware redesigns.
Workplace Options: This position is fully on-site.While on-site, you will be a part of the FBM Sustainment Team in OP1 Pittsfield, MA.

USD $95,384.00 - USD $105,817.00 /Yr.
