The Assistant D.U.G. Manager supports the D.U.G. Manager in leading the department’s daily operations and ensuring customers receive accurate, efficient, and friendly pickup service. This position helps coordinate order fulfillment, associate performance, staging, handoff, and department readiness while maintaining high standards for accuracy, food safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the D.U.G. Manager with the overall operation and performance of the Drive Up & Go department.
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to D.U.G. associates throughout the workday.
- Help train, coach, and develop associates on order fulfillment, customer service, food safety, productivity, and department procedures.
- Monitor incoming orders and organize department workload to ensure orders are completed accurately and on time.
- Assign picking, staging, handoff, and other daily responsibilities based on order volume and business needs.
- Ensure associates select quality products while following proper product substitution and availability procedures.
- Monitor order accuracy and help resolve missing, damaged, unavailable, or incorrectly selected items.
- Ensure completed orders are properly organized, staged, and maintained at appropriate temperatures until customer pickup.
- Coordinate customer arrivals and ensure orders are delivered promptly and accurately.
- Monitor wait times and adjust associate assignments as necessary to maintain efficient customer service.
- Assist customers professionally with order questions, substitutions, pickup concerns, and other service needs.
- Help maintain organized staging, storage, refrigeration, freezer, and work areas.
- Ensure department equipment and devices are properly maintained, charged, organized, and ready for use.
- Monitor department supplies and communicate replenishment needs.
- Support department productivity, labor, accuracy, service, and operational goals.
- Identify opportunities to improve department efficiency and the overall customer experience.
- Assist with associate scheduling and daily coverage based on anticipated order volume and business needs.
- Partner with other departments to locate products and resolve product availability issues.
- Maintain effective communication with store leadership regarding order volume, staffing, operational concerns, and customer issues.
- Assist with opening and closing responsibilities as assigned.
- Take responsibility for department operations in the D.U.G. Manager’s absence.
- Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs.

- Provide friendly, professional, and timely service to customers.
- Ensure customer orders are handled carefully and delivered accurately.
- Respond appropriately to customer questions or concerns regarding orders, substitutions, unavailable products, or pickup.
- Help resolve service issues whenever possible and escalate concerns when necessary.
- Maintain a customer-first mindset while balancing speed, accuracy, and productivity.
- Help ensure each customer receives a consistent and positive pickup experience.
Order Fulfillment & Accuracy
- Ensure associates follow established picking and fulfillment procedures.
- Monitor product quality, freshness, quantity, and accuracy during order selection.
- Reinforce appropriate substitution procedures when requested products are unavailable.
- Verify orders are properly staged and organized for efficient handoff.
- Maintain proper separation and storage of ambient, refrigerated, and frozen products.
- Monitor order progress throughout the day and identify potential delays before they impact customers.
- Work with other departments to address out-of-stocks and product availability concerns.
Food Safety & Department Standards
- Follow and reinforce established food safety and sanitation procedures.
- Ensure temperature-sensitive products are handled and stored appropriately.
- Maintain clean and organized staging, storage, and equipment areas.
- Reinforce safe lifting, cart handling, and product-handling practices.
- Identify and communicate potential safety hazards or equipment concerns.
- Ensure department practices protect product quality and customer orders throughout the fulfillment process.

Physical & Scheduling Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to move throughout the store repeatedly while fulfilling and supporting customer orders.
- Ability to bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull merchandise, carts, and supplies as required.
- Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer areas when necessary.
- Ability to safely transport customer orders to designated pickup areas.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing order volumes.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, which may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
