Position Summary:

Reports administratively to the health services administrator with clinical oversight from MTC Medical’s corporate clinical director. Directly supervises the dental assistant. Responsible for providing preventive and corrective dental care to detainees in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.

Essential Functions:

1. Provide dental diagnostic and treatment services to detainees, using current knowledge of

methods, practices, procedures and techniques of providing quality diagnosis and treatment in

accordance with ICE standards. Document all treatment accurately, legibly and promptly.

2. Provide guidance and technical supervision to dental hygienists and dental assistants

performing direct and indirect patient care services, coordinating clinic operations with the

health services administrator.

3. Maintain an effective clinical patient scheduling and record-keeping system; maintain records on clinic operations and prepare required reports, as needed. Schedule patients in accordance with ICE guidelines.

4. Coordinate and participate in patient education programs and services; provide consultation,

guidance, and in-service education to other health services staff.

5. Refer patients to oral health specialists for consultations, evaluations and treatments.

6. Adhere to established corporate, facility and correctional policies and procedures in making

decisions, while using sound independent judgment in performing the duties of the position.

7. Maintain security and confidentiality of all patient medical records.

8. Implement basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility

operations.

9. Comply with all applicable pharmacy regulations, especially those regarding controlled

substances.

10. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.

11. Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the health services program by

providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate dental services.

12. Maintain equipment and supplies.

13. Provide orientation for new dental staff concerning the facility dental program.

14. May act as the radiation safety officer as designated by the health services administrator.

15. Requires prolonged periods of walking and standing.

16. Regular and predictable onsite attendance is required.

17. Promote the development of positive social skills among staff and detainees through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.

18. Maintain accountability of detainees and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

DDS or DMD degree and valid license to practice dentistry with DEA registration in the state of Arizona current CPR certification, and US Citizenship or Lawful US Permanent Resident required. Two (2) years of general clinical practice highly desired. Must successfully complete required preservice training. Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements:

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements and maintain appropriate facility clearance.
