Job Description

Senior Director, HIV Treatment Portfolio Strategy

The Senior Director, HIV Treatment Portfolio Strategy is responsible for defining and advancing the integrated portfolio strategy across Gilead's HIV Treatment brands. As the portfolio expands to include multiple complementary brands, this leader ensures brand strategies, investments, and commercial approaches work together intentionally to maximize long-term patient impact, portfolio value, and franchise growth while preserving clear brand-level ownership and accountability.

This role serves as the enterprise integrator for the HIV Treatment business, partnering closely with Brand Leadership, Sales, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Insights & Analytics, Finance, Commercial Operations, and Global teams to identify portfolio opportunities, establish strategic priorities, guide investment and resource allocation decisions, and enable coordinated decision-making across brands. The role is accountable for portfolio direction, governance, prioritization, and strategic integration, while brand and capability leaders translate those priorities into specialized strategies, activation plans, and business outcomes.

The Senior Director identifies and frames the portfolio's most consequential strategic choices, evaluates opportunities, risks, dependencies, and trade-offs across brands, and develops objective recommendations that enable timely executive decisions and coordinated organizational action. This includes assessing growth opportunities, competitive responses, investment trade-offs, and future priorities.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Director, Portfolio Strategy is accountable for defining the integrated HIV Treatment portfolio strategy, establishing portfolio priorities, leading cross-brand decision-making, and optimizing investment and resource allocation across the business.

The role does not own brand, customer engagement, media, digital, field, or channel strategies. Instead, it establishes the portfolio direction, priorities, governance, and decision frameworks that guide those functions. Brand teams and portfolio capability leaders translate portfolio priorities into specialized strategies, execution plans, and measurable business outcomes.

Portfolio Strategy, Growth & Investment Prioritization

- Lead the development and alignment of the integrated HIV Treatment Portfolio Strategy, defining the role of each brand and how brands work together to address evolving patient, customer, and market needs.
- Own the portfolio planning framework, connecting long-range strategy, annual planning, investment decisions, and business reviews into a cohesive roadmap.
- Assess market dynamics, competitive trends, customer needs, policy developments, and emerging innovations to identify the growth opportunities, risks, and strategic choices most critical to the future performance of the HIV Treatment portfolio.
- Develop recommendations on portfolio positioning, competitive responses, future growth opportunities, and strategic priorities to strengthen long-term franchise performance and competitiveness.
- Establish governance, prioritization, and decision-making processes that support effective resource allocation and resolution of cross-brand trade-offs.
- Lead portfolio investment planning and performance reviews, recommending where resources should be increased, sustained, redirected, or reduced to maximize portfolio value.
- Champion a portfolio-first mindset that balances individual brand objectives with broader franchise priorities, long-term growth, and patient impact.

Commercial Alignment & Operating Model

- Translate portfolio strategy into enterprise priorities, strategic guardrails, and operating principles that guide how brands work together across the HIV Treatment portfolio.

- Define governance structures, decision rights, prioritization frameworks, and planning processes that enable effective coordination across brands and functions.

- Establish portfolio priorities and strategic guardrails that brand and capability leaders use to shape customer engagement, field, digital, media, Next Best Action, and other specialized strategies.
- Ensure commercial investments are evaluated based on both brand impact and contribution to overall portfolio objectives.
- Drive alignment across cross-functional stakeholders when strategic trade-offs, competing priorities, or resource allocation decisions require enterprise-level decision making.

Leadership & Strategic Influence

- Align senior leaders around portfolio priorities, strategic choices, and investment decisions.
- Translate market, customer, competitive, and financial insights into clear recommendations and decision-ready options for leadership.
- Champion high-priority cross-functional initiatives requiring coordination across commercial, medical, market access, analytics, operations, and global teams.
- Bring external perspectives, emerging trends, and evolving customer needs into portfolio planning and decision-making.
- Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to senior leadership on portfolio growth, competitiveness, and long-term value creation.

Measures of Success

- Leadership has a clear and aligned view of portfolio priorities, strategic choices, investment needs, and the role of each brand.
- Portfolio, brand, and functional plans are connected through effective governance, coordinated decision-making, and transparent resource allocation.
- Cross-brand synergies are maximized while brand differentiation, accountability, and strategic focus are preserved.
- Portfolio resources and investments are focused on the highest-value growth opportunities and strategic priorities.
- Portfolio priorities are consistently translated into aligned strategies, coordinated execution, and sustainable franchise growth.

- Investment and resource allocation decisions consistently improve portfolio performance, strategic focus, and long-term franchise value.
