We currently have a phenomenal opportunity as a Machinist! This role is based at our facility in Huntsville, Alabama.

Pay $36.25 per hour

Summary:

The CNC Machinist III is a senior-level machining professional responsible for the setup, operation, programming, troubleshooting, and optimization of CNC machine tools with a primary focus on CNC lathes. This position serves as a technical leader within the machine shop and is expected to independently manage projects from blueprint review through final inspection while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and productivity. The ideal candidate possesses extensive hands-on machining experience and demonstrates expertise in CNC turning operations, machine setup, tooling selection, process development, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

· Set up and operate CNC lathes and CNC milling machines with minimal supervision.

· Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.

· Select appropriate tooling, workholding, cutting parameters, and machining strategies.

· Produce precision components while maintaining dimensional accuracy and quality standards.

· Perform advanced machining operations including threading, boring, grooving, contouring, and precision finishing.

· Demonstrate attention to detail, careful work practices, and product knowledge.

· Perform preventative maintenance, tooling changes, modification, and repair on machine tooling.

· Review a print and determine the machining process.

· Create or modify CNC programs.

· Troubleshoot machining and equipment issues.

· Train and mentor less experienced machinists.

· Perform mold assessments and repairs by reviewing last shots, history sheets, and providing production support for molds in use.

· Interpret drawings and/ or proven part models to write programs for the CNC machines that include proper methodology, tooling, cutting speeds and feeds in order to generate quality parts in accordance to product specifications, to the extent of individual skill.

· Study and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to resolve dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and set-up requirements to improve efficiency.

· Build set-up sheets based on tooling selection criteria.

· Monitor and verify the accuracy of each job’s initial set-up and outcome.

· Revise programs and documents based on engineering changes.

· Maintain library of programs in the vault.

· Responsible for process improvements and machine time reductions including tool and new product program testing.

· Conduct general area and workstation housekeeping for maintaining a clean and safe work area, including clean up at work sites.

· Store inventory and materials in neat and labeled areas consistent with 5S and safety principles.

· Support and participate in high performing teams.

· Participate in safety activities such as support for Suggestion Boards, Grass Root team projects, 5S projects, department ergonomic improvements.

· Work safely, follow safety rules and regulations, and assist supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and balanced work environment.

Skills, knowledge & requirements

· High school diploma or GED supplemented by validated proven experience programming and operating manual or CNC machines in a mid to heavy manufacturing environment.

· 7-10 years of CNC machining experience.

· Experience in the application of precision measuring equipment

· Ability to accurately read drawings and specifications with an understanding of geometric tolerances and dimensions.

· Create and modify CNC programs using Mastercam, Mazatrol, or equivalent programming methods.

· Extensive experience with CNC lathes including setup, operation, and troubleshooting.

· Experience with CNC milling machines and machining centers.

· Strong understanding of machining stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and engineering plastics.

· Experience working in a job shop, tooling, or custom manufacturing environment preferred.

· Detailed knowledge of programming segments and corresponding operations, in accordance with level of position.

· Solid understanding of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars and inserts used on various machines.

· Ability to use various mathematical skills to calculate material fabrication, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra.

· Ability to set priorities and efficiently advance projects to achieve customer and quality objectives.

· Ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.

· Communicate efficiently, both verbally and in writing, with all levels in the plant.

Physical requirements

· Bends, stoops, crouches, reaches, and pulls.

· Uses fine motor skills to operate tools and machinery, including in tight spaces with low tolerance.

· Walks, cleans, and completes paperwork or data entry into computer inventory system.

· Lifts and moves up to 50 pounds.

· Holds, lifts, and manipulates parts of different sizes, shapes, and weights for inspection.

· Inspects parts and reads blueprints or schematics using near vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

· Work Environment:

· Exposed to humid conditions, airborne particles and extreme cold or heat.

· Moving mechanical parts and loud noise levels.

· Frequently exposed to fumes.
