About this role
HPC Linux Software Engineer
Work Location: Colorado Springs, CO (on-site)
US Citizenship is required.
An active TS/SCI is required.
An adjudicated CI Polygraph is required prior to start.
DPG Solutions is seeking an experienced HPC Linux Software Engineer to support a High Performance Computing (HPC) research and development customer in Colorado Springs. You will be an active member of the Technical User Support (TUS) team, working on-site with the TUS lead, program Chief Scientist, customer representatives, researchers, users, and site staff.
This role combines software engineering with direct support for people using HPC systems. You will help users work through modeling and simulation problems, troubleshoot Linux environments, and develop, debug, and maintain software across heterogeneous platforms. The right candidate is comfortable working independently in a lab while collaborating closely with scientists and engineers.
Responsibilities
- Support HPC users with modeling and simulation workflows, applications, and graphical user interfaces.
- Diagnose and resolve Linux system, software, and end-user issues in an on-site lab environment.
- Develop, use, debug, and maintain modeling and simulation software across heterogeneous, multi-platform environments.
- Write and maintain software in Fortran, C, and/or C++, along with Bash and Korn shell scripts.
- Analyze existing code, resolve defects, and maintain the integrity of established applications.
- Support the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, use cases, design, coding, documentation, and testing of scalable, distributed Linux applications.
- Apply coding standards, unit testing, and configuration management practices.
- Mentor junior engineers and scientists, provide technical guidance, and participate in code reviews.
- Develop and deliver workshops, tutorials, or onboarding materials for HPC users and internal staff.
- Coordinate technical work with the TUS team, program Chief Scientist, customer, users, and site staff.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and at least 10 years of professional experience.
- Approximately five years of experience developing and using modeling and simulation software in heterogeneous, multi-platform environments.
- Knowledge of HPC environments, related technologies, and user workflows for modeling and simulation.
- Proficiency in Fortran, C, and/or C++.
- Proficiency in Bash and Korn shell scripting.
- Strong Linux skills and the ability to resolve end-user system problems independently in a lab environment.
- Experience with coding standards, unit testing, and configuration management.
- Experience analyzing, debugging, and maintaining an existing code base.
- Experience developing scalable, distributed applications in Linux through requirements, design, implementation, documentation, and testing.
- Experience mentoring engineers or scientists, conducting code reviews, and providing technical guidance.
- Experience creating and delivering training or onboarding materials for technical users.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities.
- US Citizenship, an active TS/SCI, and an adjudicated CI Polygraph prior to start.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for an engineer who enjoys working directly with users as much as solving difficult software problems. You should be able to move between a researcher’s workflow, the underlying code, and the Linux environment to find the cause of an issue and help the user move forward. This role is a strong fit for someone who takes ownership of technical problems, communicates clearly, and enjoys helping others become more effective with HPC tools.
