About this role
The West Region Electronic Design Manager is responsible for leading the Electronic Fire Systems Design organization across the Western Region, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, and technically compliant design solutions for Fire Alarm systems.
This position provides leadership and strategic direction to Design Team Managers and engineering staff, balancing workload capacity, driving productivity improvements, developing technical talent, and ensuring consistent execution of company design standards. The role serves as the primary link between regional operations, sales, and the Fire Systems Engineering leadership team.
The West Region Electronic Design Manager manages approximately 13 Design Team Managers and their associated engineering and CAD teams, along with support staff.

What will you do
Leadership & People Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop Design Team Managers throughout the Western Region.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and customer satisfaction.
- Support succession planning, recruiting, onboarding, and career development initiatives.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and development planning with direct reports.
- Promote professional certification advancement, including NICET certifications and technical training.
How will you do it
Operational Management
- Manage regional engineering resources to balance workload, capacity, and technical expertise across districts.
- Coordinate staffing and project assignments to minimize non-productive time and maximize responsiveness to operations and sales teams.
- Monitor project delivery metrics, utilization, productivity, quality, and schedule performance.
- Ensure consistent use of engineering tools, standards, workflows, and design procedures.
- Drive continuous process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce design costs.
Technical Leadership
- Provide subject matter expertise and guidance on complex electronic system designs.
- Review and resolve technical escalations involving code compliance, engineering challenges, and customer requirements.
- Ensure adherence to applicable codes, standards, company engineering practices, and customer specifications.
- Support value engineering initiatives and design optimization efforts.
Business Performance
- Support achievement of regional productivity, margin improvement, and cost savings goals.

- Partner with Operations and Sales leadership to improve booking-to-design cycle times and project execution.
Customer & Stakeholder Support
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Project Management, and Installation leadership to support business growth.
- Provide technical consultation for complex pursuits and strategic customer opportunities.
- Support pre-sale engineering activities, labor estimating, and design strategy development.
- Serve as escalation point for major customer and operational design issues.
Regional Coordination
- Work closely with the East Region Electronic Design Manager and National Fire Systems Engineering leadership to ensure consistency across regions.
- Facilitate sharing of best practices, technical expertise, and engineering resources.
- Participate in strategic planning, organizational development, and national engineering initiatives.
What we look for
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the Fire Alarm Industry
- Must have NICET Certification Level II or higher.
- Requires good interpersonal skills, along with effective writing, speaking and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated management/leadership abilities to include training, team building, presentation and negotiation skills, branch administration and effective interaction with customer/company management.
- Ability to read and comprehend financial statements.
- Ability to manage a remote regional team
- Ability to read and negotiate terms for standard construction contracts.
- Previous P&L management experience a plus.
- Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal codes.
- Proficient with MS Office as well as other design software, i.e. CAD.
- Ability to travel at no less than 45%
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $130,000 - $200,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
