About this role

The Service Technician- Class B is responsible for performing diagnostics, repair, and maintenance on medium-duty through Class 7 and 8 heavy-duty trucks in a timely and proficient manner. This position operates with moderate supervision and is considered an experienced technician role. The Class B Technician is expected to handle a wide range of repairs, continue developing advanced diagnostics skills, and at times assist in training less experienced technicians. This role supports shop productivity, quality workmanship, and customer uptime.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

- Diagnostics and Repair

Perform mechanical repairs on medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks

- Inspect, test, and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues

- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, overhauls, and component replacements

- Assist with diagnosing fuel, emissions, and other complex systems

- Utilize diagnostic software, OEM tools, and specialized equipment

- Work Execution and Quality

Complete repairs in a timely and efficient manner with attention to quality

- Read and understand repair orders and follow instructions accurately

- Test vehicles and components to verify proper operation after repairs

- Identify additional repair needs and communicate findings

- Maintain productivity standards while ensuring accurate workmanship

- Team Support and Communication

Communicate repair status, concerns, and updated to Shop Foreman or Service Manager

- Assist in training and supporting less experienced technicians when needed

- Collaborate with team members to improve workflow and efficiency

- Participate in shop meetings and team discussions

- Maintain professional interactions with coworkers and leadership

- Safety and Compliance

Follow all safety policies , procedures, and OSHA requirements

- Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment

- Maintain awareness of environmental and safety hazards in the shop

- Participate in required training and certification programs

- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Company and regulatory standards

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below are representative of those required. This position involves hands-on work in a shop environment including frequent use of tools, equipment, and machinery. Employees are required to stand, walk, bend, lift, and work in various conditions, including exposure to noise, fumes, and moving mechanical parts. Lifting up to 50-100 pounds may be required. Education

- High school diploma or GED required

- Technical or diesel technology degree preferred

- Intermediate computer skills required, including diagnostic software and service systems

Skills Required

- Strong mechanical aptitude with developing diagnostic and troubleshooting skills

- Working knowledge of heavy-duty truck systems including engine, electrical, fuel, brake, and emissions systems

- Ability to read and interpret repair orders, schematics, and technical manuals

- Effective written and verbal communication skills

- Basic mathematical skills for measurements and calculations

- Problem-solving skills to address mechanical and electrical issues

- Ability to use diagnostic tools, software, and shop environment

- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time in a fast-paced environment

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work

- Ability to work collaboratively with other technicians and supervisors

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

- CDL preferred but not required. With a valid CDL, must be able to meet Company insurability requirements

- OEM and ASE certifications preferred

- Occasional travel to other Company locations or training may be required
