Overview
AtkinsRéalis is currently seeking an intermediate Piping Stress Analyst to join the Candu Energy Inc. engineering team in Mississauga, Ontario.
This position requires a self-motivated individual capable of working independently or under the guidance of senior engineers. The successful candidate must be able to follow the direction of a qualified Professional Engineer to complete assigned mechanical engineering tasks and develop the necessary engineering design documentation.
Your role
The qualified individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Perform pipe stress evaluations of piping systems (nuclear class and non-nuclear class) in accordance with ASME Section III, Division 1, and/or ASME B31.1/B31.3 code requirements, including thermal, fatigue, seismic, linear, and non-linear analyses.
- Prepare engineering calculations and analyses using applicable software such as PipeStress, AutoPIPE, CAESAR II, MathCAD, ANSYS, and LS-DYNA.
- Model complex piping systems and support arrangements using finite element analysis techniques.
- Review technical documents and drawings, including: Equipment General Arrangement drawings.
- Equipment layout drawings.
- Isometrics.
- Pipe support drawings.
- Flow diagrams and P&IDs.
- Calculations and analysis reports.
- Design requirements and specifications.
- Technical specifications and data sheets.
- Bills of Materials.
- Review 3D piping models and equipment layouts.
- Prepare technical documents, including: Calculations.
- Design and analysis reports.
- Design requirements.
- Piping stress design basis reports.
- Piping design specifications.
- Technical specifications.
- Data sheets.
- Support preparation of TSSA CRN registration packages for pressure boundary systems.
- Perform visits to client facilities and supplier shops as required.
- Support field construction and project execution activities, including site visits when required.
- Perform engineering work in accordance with AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy quality assurance programs and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- May be required to obtain Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) status depending on assignment requirements.
- Travel to client job sites may be required.
About you
- Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university, or an equivalent degree recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Registered as, or eligible to be registered as, a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario (mandatory requirement).
- Qualification within the last five years as a Specialized Professional Engineer to ASME Section III, Division 1, Appendix XXIII is preferred.
- 5-10 years of related Mechanical Engineering experience in heavy industrial sectors such as power generation, mining, oil & gas, nuclear, or similar industries. Knowledge of nuclear power systems is considered an asset.
- Experience designing piping supports for power, mining, oil & gas, or similar facilities. Knowledge of nuclear piping support design to ASME Section III, Subsection NF is considered an asset.
- Experience with PipeStress, AutoPIPE, CAESAR II, MathCAD, GT STRUDL, or similar software. Ability to apply engineering principles logically and practically to resolve technical issues.
- Experience with time-history analysis (water hammer, pressure surge, and other transient loads) for piping systems is an asset.
- Experience with buried piping systems and seismic assessments in accordance with Appendix VII of ASME B31.1, ASCE, AWWA M11, or other applicable standards is an asset.
- Experience with stress analysis and support design for steam piping systems in nuclear power plants is an asset.
- Design engineering experience involving Nuclear Class 1, 2, 3, and 6 piping systems and their associated supports is preferred.
- Working knowledge of: CSA B51.
- ASME B31.1.
- ASME B31.3.
- ASME Section VIII.
- ASCE.
- NBCC.
- AISC.
- Related power, mining, and oil & gas industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Working knowledge of CSA N285.0, CSA N289, ASME Section III, and related standards governing nuclear plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and reactor systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of nuclear industry standards and regulations such as CSA N285.0, CSA N289, and ASME Section III is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Must be eligible to obtain Security Clearances through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) for both Candu Energy and client organizations.
