Job Title: Civil Superintendent Job Description The Civil Superintendent oversees all daily field operations for heavy civil construction projects, working in a full-travel capacity on sites primarily located in Arkansas and Texas. This role leads crews and subcontractors, coordinates equipment and materials, and ensures projects meet safety, quality, schedule, and production goals. The Civil Superintendent serves as a key field leader, maintaining strong communication with project management, clients, inspectors, and field personnel while driving successful completion of earthwork, site development, utilities, and other heavy civil activities. Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily field operations for civil construction projects, ensuring work progresses safely, efficiently, and according to plan.
- Manage field crews and subcontractors, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing direction to meet production goals.
- Oversee construction activities such as earthwork, grading, excavation, utilities, concrete, and site development to ensure quality and compliance with project requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and execute project schedules, sequencing work to meet milestones and production targets.
- Coordinate equipment, materials, and manpower needs, ensuring resources are available and utilized effectively on each project.
- Monitor jobsite safety practices, enforce safety policies, and promote a strong safety culture to maintain compliance on all job sites.
- Track project progress and quality, identifying issues early and implementing corrective actions to keep projects on schedule and within scope.
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, and survey data to guide field activities and ensure work aligns with design and contract requirements.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, inspectors, and field personnel to provide updates, address concerns, and support project objectives.
- Support compliance requirements for working on federal facilities, including adherence to site-specific rules and procedures.
- Participate in company events and initiatives that support a positive culture and team environment.
Essential Skills
- 810+ years of civil construction experience.
- Proven experience leading field crews on earthwork and site development projects.
- Strong understanding of grading, excavation, underground utilities, and heavy civil operations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors, equipment, and daily production on active job sites.
- Knowledge of project scheduling and sequencing for civil construction projects.
- Strong safety leadership with a clear commitment to jobsite safety and compliance.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and survey data.
- Effective communication skills for working with project managers, clients, inspectors, and crews.
- Ability to meet pre-hire requirements, including drug testing and motor vehicle record screening, and to work on federal facilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Federal project experience is a plus and considered a bonus qualification.
- Experience in concrete, commercial construction, and site construction environments is beneficial.
- Familiarity with ESOP-based organizations and employee ownership cultures is an advantage.
- Ability to adapt to varying project locations, schedules, and site conditions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in the field.
Work Environment This is a full-travel role with primary project locations in Arkansas and Texas, supported from a main office based near St. Louis, Missouri. The schedule typically follows a rotation of six days on, working approximately 11 hours per day, followed by one week off, with occasional adjustments around holidays. Field work generally starts at 6:00 a.m. during the summer, and crews may work through lunch to finish earlier, with some flexibility in daily scheduling. While traveling, a company truck is provided, and driving time to project sites is compensated hourly. Daily per diem is provided to support travel assignments. Project teams perform mass excavation, grading, underground utilities, drilling and blasting, crushing, and site development, using heavy civil equipment and working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $57.69 - $86.54/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
