REPORTS TO:                       Director of Financial Aid

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, assists with the administration of the financial aid program for the College, including oversight of daily office procedures, providing customer service to students, administering daily operation of the Federal Aid programs and providing training and assistance to office staff.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assists the Director in developing, implementing, and overseeing financial aid policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and College regulations. Supports student recruitment, marketing efforts, and retention initiatives, serving as a resource for the College and community.

- Leads, trains, and mentors assigned staff; provides input on employment decisions; schedules and monitors daily operations; and oversees financial aid programs delivery with an emphasis on quality customer service, staff development, and continuous training.

- Monitors transfer students; reviews student records and attendance before releasing refund checks; adjusts aid amounts as needed when students add or drop courses.

- Ensures students receive high-quality customer service by resolving issues in a timely manner; reviews and corresponds with students regarding documentation requirements; notifies students of eligibility status in a timely and appropriate manner; assists students through to financial aid process; responds to student questions and concerns.

- Administers the work study programs for the College in a manner consistent with Federal, State, Foundation, and institutional guidelines; administers and expands the College scholarship programs, which are funded from institutional, State, Foundation, and private sources; maintains scholarship files.

- Calculates and records the amount of Title IV funds to be returned to the government when students do not complete a semester and notifies appropriate departments/agencies of transactions; reconciles work study, loan and scholarship funds with the Business Office and Department of Education.

- Maintains a working knowledge of all aspects of the Financial Aid Office; performs necessary supervisory functions in the absence of the Director of Financial Aid.

- Assists the Director with required reports including reviewing student’s attendance prior to releasing financial aid checks, reporting generated for the purpose of debt management for loan program, and periodic reports to ensure that all financial aid awarded has been done so correctly.

- Assists the Director in the review and development of the departmental budget, including entrance and exit counseling sessions, and evaluating and assessing programs for operational improvements.

- May serve on various campus committees as assigned.

- Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Associate’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field.

- Three (3) years of experience in financial aid which include some supervisory responsibilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
