Build a brilliant future with Hiscox

Role Overview

The Platform Engineer is a hands-on technical role, supporting the reliability, security, and automation of our software delivery pipelines and hybrid cloud infrastructure.

This role combines the disciplines of DevOps (Automation & CI/CD) and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) . Working closely with tech squad members (i.e. software and data engineers, and SDETs), you will help ensure our applications are secure by design, available, performant, and deployed through automated pipelines, using infrastructure-as-code principles across Azure and GCP environments and, where appropriate, on-premises too.

You will support other engineers to self-serve where possible by contributing to reusable templates, designs and components, and by sharing knowledge that helps improve platform engineering practices across the squad.

- CI/CD Tooling: Practical experience working with Azure DevOps pipelines or similar tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Puppet), with support from more experienced engineers where needed.

- DevOps/SRE Experience: Some experience involving DevOps, platform engineering, infrastructure, or operational support responsibilities.

- IaC Experience: Working knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform , Azure Resource Manager (ARM) Templates, Bicep or YAML, with an understanding of version control and state management concepts.

- Cloud Exposure: Hands-on experience of working with Azure, GCP or hybrid cloud environments.

- Security Mindset: Awareness of secure engineering practices, risk concepts, and application security testing approaches such as SAST and DAST.

- Monitoring Tools: Experience using monitoring and logging tools such as New Relic, ELK or similar, with an understanding of how alerts, dashboards, and cloud cost visibility help improve reliability and efficiency.
