About this role
Cleanroom Technician
Overview:
The Cleanroom Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in either Fremont, CA or Reno, NV. This role assembles, cleans, tests, and packages Pivotal’s gas flow control products in an ISO-classified cleanroom, and helps keep the cleanroom itself running to specification.
Day-to-day work combines precision assembly from work instructions and drawings, ultra-high-purity (UHP) part handling and preparation, in-process and final testing such as leak checks and flow verification, and routine cleanroom upkeep and monitoring.
The technician works closely with manufacturing engineering, test, and quality teams, follows strict contamination-control and safety procedures, and plays a direct role in the quality and traceability of every product that ships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic subassemblies and finished products in a cleanroom, following work instructions, drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Clean, prepare, and handle UHP components using approved techniques, including solvent wiping, nitrogen purge and dry, and double-bagging and labeling (bag and tag).
- Perform in-process and final tests, such as helium leak checks, pressure tests, and flow and calibration verification on automated test stands, and accurately record results.
- Inspect incoming parts and completed assemblies visually and dimensionally; identify, tag, and quarantine nonconforming material and escalate quality issues.
- Maintain cleanroom conditions by following gowning protocols, performing scheduled wipe-downs, monitoring particle counts and environmental conditions, and logging results.
- Operate and perform basic upkeep on cleanroom and production equipment, such as cleaning stations, purge stations, ovens, and leak detectors, and report equipment issues promptly.
- Complete travelers, test records, and ERP/MES transactions accurately to maintain full product traceability.
- Package and label finished products for inventory and shipment to customer specifications.
- Follow all safety procedures, including ESD control, chemical handling, and gas safety requirements.
- Contribute to 5S and continuous improvement efforts, suggest improvements to work instructions, and help train new technicians as experience grows.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ years of experience in manufacturing, assembly, or a related technical role, or equivalent technical training.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience using hand tools, torque tools, and basic measuring instruments (e.g., calipers).
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
- Basic soldering and electrical assembly skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation habits.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and recording test results.
- Ability to wear full cleanroom attire (gown, hood, gloves, mask) and stand or sit at a workstation for extended periods.
- Ability to follow procedures precisely and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Prior experience working in a semiconductor, UHP, or other controlled cleanroom environment (e.g., ISO Class 5–7).
- Experience with leak detectors, gas delivery components, or mass flow controllers.
- IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification, or equivalent electronics assembly training.
- Technical certificate or associate’s degree in electronics, mechanical, or manufacturing technology.
- Familiarity with ESD control, 5S, and quality systems such as ISO 9001.
