## Project Overview:
Bechtel’s Manufacturing & Technology (M&T) Business Unit is designing and building an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) Manufacturing Facility located at Generation Park in Houston, TX. ## Job Summary:
The Workforce Development Instructor for Rigging delivers classroom, hands-on, field, and skills-based training that supports the development, qualification, and safe performance of craft professionals on large industrial construction projects. The instructor develops field-ready rigging capability through practical demonstrations, written and hands-on assessments, coaching, and competency verification. This position supports Open Shop operations and regularly deploys project locations for training, mobilization, and startup activities. #LI-TH1
## Major Responsibilities:
- Deliver rigging instruction: Provide classroom, hands-on, and field-based instruction for craft professionals and supervisory personnel.
- Teach core rigging skills: Cover rigging hardware identification and inspection, sling selection, hitches, knots, load weight and capacity calculations, sling angles, center of gravity, load control, wedge-socket assembly, crane signals, and operational communication.
- Evaluate competency: Administer written assessments, practical demonstrations, skills verifications, and competency evaluations; document results and provide coaching when performance gaps are identified.
- Support qualification programs: Facilitate craft training, apprenticeship, qualification, certification, Competent to Operate, and Verification of Competency programs in accordance with established requirements.
- Teach lift planning: Provide instruction on routine, non-routine, and critical lift planning, including hazard recognition, load-control methods, rigging sketches, and field execution. Review lift plans when assigned and qualified to do so.
- Maintain training materials: Develop, review, and update lesson plans, participant materials, practical exercises, assessments, and evaluator guides to reflect field practices and controlled requirements.
- Maintain records: Coordinate training events and maintain accurate attendance, assessment, qualification, and completion documentation.
- Support projects: Travel extensively to project sites and support workforce mobilization, project startup, instructor coordination, and training-facility setup.
- Promote safe execution: Reinforce applicable environmental, safety, and health requirements and stop training or practical activities when conditions are unsafe.
## Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
- Journey-level rigging knowledge and substantial hands-on experience performing rigging and load-handling work on large industrial construction projects.
- Current NCCER Advanced Rigger certification or NCCCO Rigger Level II certification is required.
- Previous experience as a rigging foreman, general foreman, superintendent, lift director, lead craft professional, evaluator, or rigging instructor is preferred.
## Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong working knowledge of rigging principles, load dynamics, hardware selection and inspection, sling configurations, capacity reduction, load control, and safe lifting practices.
- Ability to interpret lift plans, rigging sketches, equipment information, manufacturer requirements, and applicable project procedures.
- Working knowledge of applicable OSHA construction requirements and recognized industry rigging and lifting standards.
- Ability to facilitate classroom, practical, and field-based instruction for participants with varied experience levels and learning styles.
- Ability to evaluate knowledge and demonstrated skill objectively, identify performance gaps, provide coaching, and document qualification decisions.
- Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, writing, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently in active field environments and collaborate effectively with craft supervision, construction, safety, equipment, and workforce development personnel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively and adjust schedules to support project execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NCCER curricula, performance profiles, assessments, and credentialing processes.
- NCCER Certified Craft Instructor, Master Trainer, or Performance Evaluator credentials. Candidates without these credentials must be able to obtain the required instructor or evaluator credentials after hire.
- Experience developing rigging curricula, practical exercises, skills assessments, or lift-planning training.
- Bilingual English and Spanish capability is a plus.
- Familiarity with Bechtel processes is a plus but is not required. Required company-specific qualifications and authorizations may be completed after hire.
