The Supplier Development Engineer is accountable for leading and implementing quality plan(s), resolving quality production and efficiency problems, and functioning as the pivotal information source to suppliers and internal departments when supply quality issues occur.

Responsibilities

- Work with Engineering, Procurement, and suppliers to qualify new products including first article inspection reports and capability studies.
- Lead discussions and nonconformance reporting of internal defects with suppliers.
- Evaluate, initiate, and take corrective action for major quality problems with suppliers. Document and follow through with nonconformance reporting within Eos.
- Champion support for supplier corrective actions (SCARs), 8D containment, any root cause analysis, and corrective action documentation and implementation.
- Validate and record supplier deviations using operational and quality processes.
- Create procedures and work instructions to support and maintain company ISO 9001 certification.
- Educate and instruct appropriate plant personnel in relevant quality procedures, incoming quality control documentation, and non-conforming material dispositions.
- Drive supplier actions to verify and improve product and process quality at the supplier’s location to reduce the need to incoming inspection activities.
- Independently manages ongoing relationships and resolves conflicts as needed
- Conduct supplier visits and perform supplier audits, when necessary.
- Support Supplier APQP (Advanced Product & Quality Planning) process to develop suppliers and products to the point of successful/on-time PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and full production readiness
- Performs capability assessments with key suppliers to evaluate the application of advanced quality tools, manufacturing capabilities, material management, and lean maturity
- Assists in the development, approval, and maintenance of material specifications, vendor instructions, quality assurance procedures, supplier documents such as Quality Control Plans
- Post, calculate, and analyze routine statistical data.
- Evening and weekend work may be required as company expands, and job duties increase.

- 10-30% Travel

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Detailed knowledge of corrective action/problem-solving methodology including 8Ds, 5 whys, etc.
- Knowledge and experience of Quality systems like ISO 9001, and product qualification and development using PPAP methodology.
- Knowledge of statistical quality control techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate technical information with suppliers and with other internal organizations.

Education and Experience

- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, manufacturing engineering or business administration required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience.
- At least five (5) years of experience in QA/QC supplier system implementation and management, with three (3) years in a light manufacturing environment.

Travel

- Overnight/North America Travel: 10-25%

- Office Environment - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.   R equired to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May be required to e xert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Factory - The worker may be subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to temperature changes or exposure to chemicals.    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes , airborne particles, odors, dust, mists, and gases . The noise level in the work environment can be loud. R equired to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes . Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and lab coats. May be required to e xert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Customer/Partner Locations – Employee may visit customer or partner locations that may be comprised of office, manufacturing floor, laboratory environments and construction sites depending on the location and reason for visit.
