The Opportunity
Join Roche as a Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Business Partner and help us advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love. In this dynamic role, you will be the trusted subject matter expert and strategic partner across manufacturing, facilities, R&D, and other key business functions—developing and implementing comprehensive SHE policies, programs, and initiatives that ensure regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of safety and sustainability.
- Coordinates, develops, implements, and maintains site-wide SHE policies, procedures, and programs for regulatory compliance, company directives, and regional initiatives across critical areas such as Biosafety/Bloodborne Pathogens, Radiation Safety, Laser Safety, Asphyxiant/Compressed Gases, and Industrial Hygiene.
- Serves as the dedicated SHE Business Partner and primary point of contact for assigned Bay Area business units, including BioSpecimen Acquisition Management, Clinical Development & Medical Affairs, and Research & Early Development.
- Conducts proactive workplace hazard evaluations and formal campus-wide SHE inspections; assesses impacts from equipment, materials, processes, and facilities to eliminate unsafe conditions and mitigate compliance risks.
- Leads cross-functional continuous improvement teams to address program gaps, assists with external audits, and drives timely issue resolution.
- Delivers technical expertise to management and frontline staff in interpreting complex safety regulations, local ordinances, and global corporate standards.
- Analyzes safety metrics, incident trends, and program data to implement preventative initiatives and establish measurable tracking systems.
- Leads and participates in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and emergency planning and response protocols.
Who you are
- You hold a Bachelor's Degree in a physical science, life science, environmental science, engineering, safety, industrial hygiene, or a related technical discipline.
- You bring 5+ years of progressive safety, health, and environmental experience within diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemicals, or related regulated technical sectors.
- You possess a proven ability to influence decisions and drive safety culture change across multiple business functions without direct authority.
- You demonstrate strong, practical working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory standards (such as Cal/OSHA, EPA, DOT, and CDPH) and their pragmatic application within complex laboratory and manufacturing environments.
- You have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of translating complex scientific, technical, and regulatory requirements into clear guidance and engaging training for diverse audiences.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $83,900 - $155,900 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
