Ideally the role will be based from our Australian Support Office but remote arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.

About the Role

The Retail Buyer at Trek plays a pivotal role in maximizing the return on inventory investment by ensuring that the right products in the right quantities are delivered to Trek stores at the right time. By managing stock availability, the Retail Buyer not only helps control inventory costs but also boosts customer satisfaction and drives sales growth working closely with the  Retail Inventory Manager.

Inventory Management & Store Replenishment

- Execute DOTS (Direct owned Trek Stores) ordering for Australia, covering all vendors for the designated product/store portfolio (Trek and 3rd Party).

- Work closely with the Retail Inventory Team to analyze and implement stocking policy changes.

- Manage the product life cycle and facilitate the phase-in/out of new, old, or replacement products.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

- Keep stores notified of supply issues that may affect product availability.

- Collaborate with store teams to drive inventory related initiatives aimed at establishing DOTS as “the best bike shops in the world”.  This includes gathering product related customer feedback via sales staff.

- Work closely with stores to help facilitate in - store promotional activities and campaigns.

- Ensure transparent and timely communication with stores, providing updates and insights on key developments and operational progress as needed.

- Act as a liaison between store staff, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to streamline processes and address any inventory/buying related challenges.

Supplier Collaboration & Relationship Management

- Forge mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers, focusing on increasing margins and process efficiencies.

- Engage proactively with suppliers to improve DIFOT (Delivery In Full On Time) performance.

- Develop strategies to address late or short-supplied orders to maintain >95% store availability across the stocked range.

Continuous Improvement of Buying Process

- Identify and address issues of excess stock and availability, proposing and overseeing corrective actions.

- Collaborate with the Retail Buying Manager and Asia Pacific Retail Purchasing Manager on initiatives to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the buying process.

What We’re Looking For

We are on the lookout for someone to join our team with:

Industry-Specific Experience

- 3+ years of experience in Supply Chain Management, Inventory Management, or Purchasing.

- Experience with retail inventory management and the purchasing process.

- Prior experience in a bike industry is advantageous but not essential.

Technical Skills

- Prior retail buying, demand planning or inventory management experience is required.

- Proficiency in Microsoft applications: Excel, Outlook, Teams.

- Knowledge of SQL, Power Automate, Python, and DAX is beneficial.

- Database management skills are a plus

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills

- Strong numerical reasoning and analytical skills required.

- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and propose data-driven solutions to optimize inventory and purchasing processes.

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, store teams, and internal departments.

- Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain collaborative relationships.
