POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in leading the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This position helps maintain inventory, merchandising, product quality, department conditions, customer service, and financial performance. The Assistant Grocery Manager also trains and supervises associates while ensuring compliance with all company policies, safety requirements, and sanitation standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Customer Service

- Provides prompt, friendly, and efficient customer service.

- Greets customers and assists them in locating products.

- Makes product recommendations and promotes suggestive selling.

- Responds appropriately to customer questions and concerns.

- Resolves customer complaints or escalates them to store leadership when necessary.

- Promotes a positive shopping experience throughout the store.

Department Operations

- Assists with the daily operation of the Grocery Department.

- Participates in receiving, stocking, rotating, facing, storing, and ordering merchandise.

- Maintains adequate inventory levels to support sales and customer demand.

- Ensures merchandise is properly priced, displayed, and available for customers.

- Builds and maintains promotional displays and endcaps.

- Removes damaged, outdated, or spoiled merchandise.

- Maintains clean, organized, and properly stocked sales floor and backroom areas.

- Assists with Grocery, Dairy, and Frozen department activities as assigned.

Inventory and Financial Performance

- Assists in achieving departmental sales, labor, expense, and profit goals.

- Maintains inventory accuracy through proper ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotation practices.

- Helps control shrink, damages, and product loss.

- Reviews deliveries and verifies products against invoices.

- Completes required department records, reports, and administrative paperwork.

- Supports proper backroom organization and inventory-control procedures.

Associate Supervision and Development

- Trains, coaches, directs, and supervises department associates.

- Assigns daily tasks and follows up to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.

- Monitors associate performance and provides feedback.

- Assists with interviewing and onboarding new associates.

- Helps prepare department schedules to maintain adequate coverage while meeting labor expectations.

- Promotes teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.

- May provide store-level supervision in the absence of designated store leadership.

Safety, Sanitation, and Compliance

- Complies with and enforces company policies and procedures.

- Maintains food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.

- Ensures products are stored at the proper temperatures.

- Identifies and promptly addresses potential safety hazards.

- Ensures equipment, displays, shelves, and storage areas remain clean and safe.

- Follows applicable wage-and-hour, employment, and regulatory requirements.

- Reports safety, compliance, or operational concerns to store leadership
