About this role
A leading, dynamic pan-African private equity fund manager is seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Reporting Accountant to oversee financial operations and reporting across its expanding investment portfolio and a key new strategic expansion initiative.
This role provides critical financial leadership, ensuring robust regulatory compliance, reporting precision, and operational efficiency—primarily within Mauritius’s financial services framework alongside broader African jurisdictions. Working directly with institutional investors, auditors, regulatory bodies, and internal deal teams, you will play a central role in driving the financial performance and governance of our funds under management.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Controls: Prepare and review IFRS-compliant annual financial statements and quarterly management accounts for group entities and funds. Oversee financial reporting and controls across regional offices in South Africa, Nairobi, Abidjan, and Mauritius.
- Fund Accounting & Operations: Manage core fund accounting functions, including Net Asset Value (NAV) calculations, capital calls, distributions, liquidity, and treasury management across complex investment structures.
- Regulatory & Tax Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with Mauritian regulatory frameworks (FSC, Securities Act 2005, Financial Services Act 2007), tax obligations, LPAs, investor side letters, and advisory agreements across relevant jurisdictions.
- Audit & Investor Relations: Oversee the end-to-end external audit process across fund entities, deliver quarterly investor reporting packages, and handle specialized investor enquiries.
- Transaction & Portfolio Support: Collaborate with investment deal teams on transaction structuring, tax efficiency, valuations, legal compliance, and portfolio company-level reporting.
- Leadership & Team Guidance: Provide mentoring, technical support, and operational coaching to fellow finance team members.
Requirements
- Chartered Accountant (SA), FCCA, CPA, ICAEW, or an equivalent recognised professional accounting qualification.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- 7–10 years of relevant experience in private equity, asset management, or financial services, including at least 3 years in a dedicated senior finance or fund accounting capacity.
- In-depth understanding of the Mauritian fund regulatory environment (FSC, MRA, Bank of Mauritius) and IFRS reporting standards.
- Hands-on expertise in cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, fund performance analysis, and capital event execution.
- Proficiency in specialised financial and fund accounting platforms (e.g. Investran, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar systems) and advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities.
- Beneficial: Prior experience with fund administration platforms or exposure to Technical Assistance Facilities.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational abilities.
- Proven leadership qualities with the ability to influence and engage diverse multi-jurisdictional stakeholders.
- Meticulous attention to detail with clear, effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to undertake regional travel to international offices as required.
