With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.
The Laptops and Tablets (L&T) Platform bringup team designs and builds the system software, device driver and hardware enablement firmware that powers Google’s Chromebooks and Googlebooks, directly enabling the next generation of secure, reliable, and fastest-booting computing experiences.
In this role, you will be working at the intersection of hardware and software, you will drive open-source initiatives while partnering closely with major SoC and hardware vendors. Your team translates complex silicon capabilities into seamless experiences used by millions of people globally. The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in embedded or kernel software development.
- 3 years of experience in people management.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with Linux development environment and git/gerrit tools.
- Experience developing in coreboot, Zephyr OS, or other open-source projects.
- Knowledge of x86/ARM architecture.
- Manage cross-functional team of engineers.
- Participate in board bring-ups and work with partners to deliver new Chromebook and Googlebook devices.
- Collaborate with a global team of software and hardware engineers on new technology proposals and process improvements.
- Evaluate and help improve code and processes for scalability and maintainability.
- Be prepared to discuss your knowledge and use of AI tools during the hiring process. AI fluency is an expectation in this role.
