Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Civil Engineer to join our Highways & Complete Streets team in Newcastle upon Tyne.
You will join our team of more than 25 Highways & Streets specialist staff in Newcastle, part of a larger UK team recognised as market leaders in rural and urban highways, public transport, and active travel. The Newcastle team continues to deliver high-profile and impactful projects locally, across the UK, and internationally.
Our work covers every stage of project delivery from concept through preliminary and detailed design, construction phase support, and operation and maintenance. You’ll work within a positive and collaborative environment alongside experienced engineers and other technical professionals in multi-disciplinary teams to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions for our clients. As a graduate, you will have the opportunity to engage in a range of projects and contributing specialisms, likely including:
- Road and street design / modelling
- Junction and intersection design / modelling
- Cycle lane and active travel design
- Vehicle Restraint System design
- Drainage design / modelling
- Road pavement design
- Traffic signal design
- Traffic signage and road markings
- Network analysis and optimisation
- Feasibility studies and scheme development
- Road safety assessments and audits
You’ll also be enrolled in the AECOM ADVANCE graduate development programme, designed to support your professional and personal development as you build your career with AECOM.
Qualifications
- BEng in Civil Engineering or General Engineering, with a 2:1 classification (or equivalent) or above.
- MEng in Civil Engineering or General Engineering, with a 2:1 classification (or equivalent) or above, would be an advantage.
- Relevant modules, coursework or experience in highways, infrastructure or transportation would be an advantage.
- Genuine interest in highways & streets engineering, transport and the development of safe, efficient and sustainable transport networks.
- Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and evaluate technical information.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good technical and report-writing skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients and other stakeholders.
- Ability to structure and prioritise work effectively while contributing to the wider team.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, demonstrating initiative, focus and a willingness to learn.
- Enthusiastic, technically minded and motivated, with ambition and drive.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, including working towards relevant professional accreditation or chartership.
