Role Purpose: 
Deliver high-quality English language teaching to adult learners in line with British Council standards, creating engaging, inclusive and effective learning experiences that help students develop their confidence and communication skills in English.

The role is responsible for planning and delivering learner-centred lessons that integrate reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, while supporting the development of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Through the use of a variety of teaching approaches, digital tools and learning resources, the role ensures lessons are interactive, relevant and tailored to learners' needs and goals.

Teachers provide regular feedback, monitor progress and conduct assessment in line with British Council frameworks, helping learners achieve tangible outcomes and a clear sense of achievement throughout their learning journey. The role also contributes to maintaining high standards of teaching quality, customer experience and learner satisfaction.

As an active member of the teaching team, the postholder participates in British Council initiatives, collaborative projects and continuous professional development activities, sharing best practice and contributing to a culture of learning and innovation. Through delivering exceptional learning experiences, the role supports the British Council's mission of creating opportunities, building connections and fostering trust and understanding through the English language.

Main Accountabilities:

Teaching and Learning Delivery
The role is responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering high-quality adult learning programmes in accordance with agreed schedules, curriculum requirements, and teaching standards. The postholder delivers engaging and effective lessons, primarily during weekday evenings, creating a positive learning environment that supports learner progress, participation, and achievement. The role ensures courses are delivered in line with agreed timetables, syllabus objectives, and learning outcomes, while adapting teaching approaches to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Student Progress and Support
The role monitors learner attendance, participation, and academic progress, providing constructive feedback that encourages learner autonomy, confidence, and continuous development. The postholder supports students in achieving their learning goals through regular assessment, guidance, and counselling where appropriate, helping to create a positive and supportive learning experience.

Course and Materials Development
The role contributes to the evaluation, development, and continuous improvement of teaching materials, learning resources, and related services to ensure they remain relevant, effective, and responsive to learner needs. Where supplementary materials are developed, the postholder ensures full compliance with copyright legislation and organisational policies.

Administration and Communication
The role completes all required administrative activities accurately and within agreed timescales, including maintaining student attendance records, updating relevant systems, and managing communications with students and, where appropriate, parents or guardians. The postholder ensures that administrative processes support effective course delivery and a positive customer experience.

Professional Development
The role actively participates in continuous professional development to maintain and enhance teaching knowledge, skills, and professional practice. The postholder agrees and follows an individual learning and development plan that reflects both organisational priorities and personal development goals, contributing to improved teaching quality and learner outcomes.

Team Collaboration and Teaching Cover
The role works collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the effective delivery of teaching services and a consistent learner experience across programmes. The postholder provides teaching cover for absent colleagues when required, supporting business continuity and maintaining high standards of course delivery and customer service.

Knowledge & Experience:
Minimum / Essential:
•    First degree
•    CELTA / Trinity cert TESOL or equivalent (equivalent must include at least 100 contact hours devoted to content focus on English language, language learning and teaching English to speakers of other languages, as well as at least 6 hours of assessed teaching practice)

Qualifications:  
•    1 year full time post-CELTA qualification teaching experience
