About this role

Chief Technology Officer

UK, remote-first | Bonus + equity

flatfair has grown from a single-product proptech into a business with four live products, an established revenue-generating platform and ambitious plans for what comes next.

We’re looking for a CTO to lead Technology and Product and help us build the foundations for the next stage of growth.

You’ll inherit a strong platform, five engineers, dedicated Data and AI capability, and plenty of scope to shape how the function develops from here.

The role

You’ll work closely with the CEO and wider leadership team to turn business priorities into products and technology that deliver real value for our customers and partners.

We’re a small team, so this is a broad role. You’ll move comfortably between company priorities, technical decisions, team leadership and delivery detail, bringing clarity where it’s needed and helping the team keep momentum.

A key part of the role is shaping how our technology develops. You’ll set direction, make the bigger technical calls and put the right frameworks and standards in place so engineers can build well, make good decisions and move quickly.

You’ll stay close to the technology, with the depth to review architecture and code, challenge thinking and contribute directly when that adds value. Your impact will come from helping the whole team perform at its best.

Product Management will also sit within your remit. You’ll bring Product and Engineering together around clear priorities, strong problem definition and a practical path from idea through to delivery and measurement. flatfair - Chief Technology Off…

What we’re looking for

You’ll have a strong software engineering background and established experience leading technology at a senior level, with responsibility that goes beyond Engineering alone.

You’ll be used to owning the bigger picture across technical direction, delivery, Product, team capability and the decisions that shape how technology supports the wider business.

You’ll probably have spent a meaningful part of your career in start-ups, scale-ups or smaller technology businesses, where senior leaders stay close to the work and operate across a broad remit.

We’re looking for someone with:

- Senior technology leadership experience in smaller, growing businesses
- Strong technical judgement across software architecture, cloud platforms, APIs and integrations
- Experience owning engineering delivery end to end
- Enough coding depth to stay close to the technology and contribute when useful
- Strong product judgement and experience working closely with, or overseeing, Product Management
- Experience creating frameworks, standards and clear technical ownership that help engineers build well
- Good judgement when balancing speed, commercial value, platform health, technical debt and risk
- A track record of developing engineers and raising capability in a small team
- The confidence to challenge constructively, listen well and make clear decisions when priorities compete
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical teams.

Experience in SaaS, fintech, insurtech, proptech or another technology-enabled service business would be useful, but isn’t essential.

Our tech

Our core application is built in Python / Django and Postgres, with Vue.js on the frontend. We run on AWS, ship continuously through CircleCI and use Datadog and Sentry for monitoring and issue diagnosis.

Comparable experience matters more than matching every part of our stack. We’re looking for someone with the breadth and judgement to understand the platform quickly and help shape where it goes next.

Why flatfair?

You’ll have genuine ownership of Technology and Product in a business where your decisions will have a visible impact.

You’ll be joining a team with strong foundations and the opportunity to improve how we deliver, support the growth of our existing products and help shape what we build next.

We’re commercially disciplined and willing to invest where there’s a strong case for the value it can create. You’ll have the space to make recommendations, challenge thinking and help us make good decisions about where technology can have the biggest impact.

You’ll also be part of a small senior team where people are expected to share context, follow through on commitments and work across functions.

Where you’ll work

Our Product and Engineering team is distributed across the UK, so this is a remote-first role.

You’ll also spend regular time with the CEO, leadership team and wider business in London, so easy access to London would be beneficial.
