Overview:
The Lens Product Manager is responsible for driving the commercial performance of the ZEISS lens portfolio in Korea, from market and portfolio planning through product launch, pricing, marketing execution, and lifecycle management.
This role requires strong optical industry knowledge combined with analytical thinking and hands-on execution. The Product Manager is expected to identify business opportunities, translate technical product features into compelling customer and consumer value, and drive measurable business results through successful product launches and portfolio management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Product Portfolio & Business Management
- Manage the assinged lens product portfolio across the full product lifecycle, including new product introduction, portfolio changes, and discontinuation.
- Analyze sales, volume, product mix, pricing, profitability, customer performance, and market trends to identify business opportunities and issues.
- Develop annual product plans and recommend actions based on business performance, customer needs, and competitive activities.
- Prepare regular business reviews and provide clear, data-based recommendations for management decision-making.
2. New Product Launch
- Lead local launch planning and execution for new lens products, from business case and target customer definition through launch and post-launch performance review.
- Define target customers, product positioning, key messages, pricing, and launch deliverables based on local market needs.
- Coordinate with Sales, Brand Marketing, Academy, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, and Global teams to deliver launches on time.
- Track launch performance against defined KPIs, including sales, customer conversion, product mix, and profitability, and take corrective actions when required.
3. Pricing & Commercial Performance
- Develop and recommend pricing for new and existing products based on market position, competitive landscape, customer structure, and profitability.
- Monitor price realization, product mix, margin, and volume performance and identify actions to improve commercial results.
- Evaluate the business impact of portfolio and pricing changes before and after implementation.
4. Product Marketing & Customer Communication
- Translate technical product features into clear and compelling value propositions for optical professionals and consumers.
- Develop product marketing materials, sales tools, demonstration tools, and B2B digital communication that support customer understanding and sales conversion.
- Work with agencies and internal stakeholders to ensure marketing materials are accurate, relevant, and consistent with ZEISS brand standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve product communication based on customer feedback, sales feedback, and market response.
5. Market & Customer Insights
- Monitor customer needs, competitor activities, product launches, pricing, and relevant optical market developments.
- Gather insights through field visits, customer feedback, sales teams, market research, and business data.
- Convert market and customer insights into concrete recommendations for portfolio, pricing, product launches, and marketing activities.
- Maintain a strong understanding of both ECP decision-making and consumer needs within the optical market.
6. Cross-functional & Global Collaboration
- Act as the local business owner and product expert for assigned lens categories.
- Work closely with Sales to understand customer response and improve product performance in the market.
- Collaborate with trainers to ensure product knowledge and key selling messages are effectively transferred to internal teams and customers.
- Work with Global Product Management and Marketing teams to represent Korean market requirements and implement global product initiatives locally.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from 4-year university in Marketing, Business Administration, Optics, Healthcare, or a related field.
- Optical industry experience is mandatory, with 5+ years of total relevant professional experience.
- Hands-on experience in Product Management, Brand Management, Product Marketing, or a related commercial role.
- Strong understanding of the optical market, including products, ECP customers, distribution channels, and competitive landscape.
- Demonstrated experience managing products or brands with responsibility for commercial performance.
- Strong analytical capability to interpret sales, volume, pricing, product mix, margin, customer, and market data and translate findings into concrete actions.
- Experience planning and executing new product launches.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate both technical product information and commercial implications clearly.
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects and work effectively across Sales, Marketing, Operations, and other functions.
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Business-level English communication skills for collaboration with regional and global teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in spectacle lenses, contact lenses, vision care, medical devices, or other healthcare categories.
- Experience managing both B2B customers and B2C-facing products or brands.
- Experience developing pricing recommendations and analyzing product profitability.
- Experience developing customer-facing marketing materials, sales tools, or product communication.
- Experience leading new product launches and developing customer-facing product communication.
- Strong understanding of how professional recommendation influences consumer purchase decisions.
- Experience working in a multinational organization and collaborating with regional or global teams.
