We are looking for a Financial Controller, Statutory, Tax & Company Compliance (ST&CC) to take responsibility for statutory accounting, tax and company compliance activities for the assigned legal entity.
The preferred location for this position is Norway, Rubbestadneset with the option of hybrid work.
In this role, you will be a financially minded partner who works closely with stakeholders within Wärtsilä Global Business Services (WGBS), the ST&CC organisation and other internal and external functions. You will proactively identify financial opportunities and risks, challenge existing practices based on facts, and help define meaningful financial and operational performance indicators.
The ST&CC function provides statutory finance services for Wärtsilä legal entities and acts as a key contact point for local financial matters.
Your role and responsibilities
As a Financial Controller, ST&CC, your work will include:
- Managing and ensuring the accuracy of the legal entity’s financial position in accordance with local legislation, Wärtsilä accounting principles, directives, policies and guidelines
- Ensuring high-quality statutory financial reporting and a true and fair view of the legal entity’s financial position, risks and performance
- Preparing local statutory adjustments, bridge calculations, financial reports and analyses
- Preparing and reporting relevant quarterly and tax notes in HFM
- Monitoring changes in local accounting, statutory and tax legislation
- Coordinating local statutory reporting and mandatory financial statistics for authorities
- Preparing and presenting financial review materials to the company’s Board of Directors
- Coordinating external and internal audits, internal control reporting and the remediation of relevant internal control findings
- Supporting tax compliance activities in cooperation with the Tax Centre of Excellence, including calculations, reclaim processes, risk reporting, audits and litigation matters
- Maintaining local Delegation of Authority documentation, system authorisations, Powers of Attorney and Letters of Authority
- Supporting local subgroup, tax group and branch reporting, where applicable
- Advising the business on statutory accounting, tax and company compliance matters
- Supporting ST&CC and WGBS development projects in cooperation with global process owners and other stakeholders
- Contributing to legal entity structure changes, including mergers, acquisitions and liquidations, where applicable
- Coordinating property-related insurance matters and claims together with Group Risk Management and the businesses
- Undertaking company secretarial responsibilities and participating in the Company Management Team, where applicable
Requirements for the position
To succeed in this role, we expect you to have:
- Strong knowledge of statutory financial accounting
- Knowledge of IFRS and local accounting principles
- Good understanding of local accounting and tax legislation
- Experience with statutory reporting and company compliance
- Knowledge of external and internal auditing
- Understanding of internal controls, corporate governance and the Code of Conduct
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret financial information and communicate key figures, risks and KPIs to different stakeholders
- Strong networking, influencing and relationship-building skills
- A proactive, service-oriented and solution-focused mindset
- Ability to cooperate effectively with internal and external stakeholders in an international environment
- Fluent written and spoken English and Norwegian
- Experience with SAP and other relevant financial reporting tools
- Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field, or an equivalent qualification
- Approximately 3–5 years of relevant experience in finance, statutory accounting, taxation or company compliance
- Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas:
- Financial statutory accounting
- Company compliance
- Taxation
Qualifications/to be able to succeed in the position we expect you to have:
- Bachelor or Master’s level university education or equivalent
- 3-5 years of experience in Finance for the related process / function of the position
- Subject matter expertise on financial statutory accounting, company compliance and/or taxation.
