This senior individual contributor will serve as a strategic advisor and subject-matter expert on AI risk, helping the organization navigate complex and emerging risks associated with the development and use of artificial intelligence. The role will focus on the most complex, novel, and cross-cutting AI risk challenges, particularly those that require coordination and alignment across multiple risk disciplines.
Success in this role requires an unusual combination of AI and technology fluency, banking risk-management expertise, strong judgment in ambiguous situations, and demonstrated ability to influence complex organizations without direct authority.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Work across a wide range of business units to promote coordinated and risk-based approaches to managing AI risk.
2. Build trusted relationships across multiple functions to support effective governance and oversight of AI risks.
3. Translate technical AI risks into actionable risk-management considerations for business, risk, and governance stakeholders.
4. Assess and distinguish issues that can be addressed through evidence and control design from those requiring policy decisions, risk acceptance, or senior-level escalation.
5. Provide expert challenge and independent perspective on AI risk matters, including emerging risks and areas where existing frameworks or controls do not adequately address AI risk.
6. Recommend and help advance AI risk methodologies, decision frameworks, governance principles, control approaches, and other reusable solutions as technologies and use cases evolve.
7. Promote consistent application of AI risk-management frameworks, governance standards, and control requirements across the organization.
8. Exercise sound judgment to turn ambiguity into action, influence stakeholders across complex organizations, drive appropriate risk-management outcomes, and escalate significant AI risk matters when warranted.
9. Coach and mentor junior team members and contribute to building the organization's AI risk talent, capabilities, and leadership pipeline.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Ten+ years of banking, technology, operations or risk management experience.
3. Experience with AI lifecycle governance and risk assessment methodologies.
4. Knowledge of AI regulatory frameworks and compliance standards.
5. Strong business acumen / knowledge, management experience, problem solving, critical thinking, influencing and decision-making skills.
6. Experience operating independently and navigating ambiguity to deliver value.
7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills demonstrating the ability to establish credibility with all levels of management effectively.
8. Demonstrated ability to organize and manage complex initiatives and deliver high-quality, executive level work products.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Advanced degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Risk Management).
2. Demonstrated experience addressing complex AI or emerging technology risks within a large highly regulated organization
3. Strong working knowledge of Foundational model, GenAI/Agentic AI system, and associated technical and operational risks.
4. Deep understanding of banking risk-management and control environments, including risk governance, independent challenge, risk appetite, control design and assessment, issue management, and escalation.
5. Demonstrated ability to work across multiple risk disciplines.
6. Proven ability to influence senior executives, risk leaders, technical leaders, and other stakeholders across organizational boundaries without relying on direct authority.
To comply with the Virginia pay transparency statute and for work locations in Virginia only, **The annual base salary for this position is $180,000-$200,000.**
