This position is accountable to effectively supervise the day to day activities of the EKG Lab including performing procedures, assigning job duties, compiling statistics and maintaining QA database for system-wide EKG performance. The position delivers exceptional customer service through prioritization of patient safety, preferences, and effective communication. The role partners with patients, families, colleagues, and external stakeholders to deliver accurate cardiac diagnostics, patient-centered care, and optimal outcomes.
Essential Job Function:
- Supervises Cardiographic trainees and Certified Cardiographic Technologists to ensure that patients receive the proper care when being tested for different heart conditions.
- Writes and maintains policies and procedures for the electrocardiogram (EKG) department to establish standardized protocols that maintain consistency and adhere to best practices.
- Conducts EKG education and competency checks for new EKG techs, Registered Nurses, and nursing techs to ensure their proficiency and competence in performing EKGs for accurate testing results.
- Performs high-risk nuclear stress tests, exercise treadmill tests, and stress and dobutamine echocardiograms independently to assess patients' cardiovascular health and diagnose conditions.
- Prepares and edits EKG and exercise EKG test results for timely distribution to appropriate divisions and physicians to support seamless communication for effective patient care.
- Implements and monitors quality assurance measures for the lab and hospital, ensuring adherence to standards and maintaining accurate lab statistics for data-driven improvements to ensure the reliability and accuracy of EKG results.
- Performs high-risk nuclear stress tests, exercise treadmill tests, and stress echocardiograms independently to assess patients' cardiovascular health and diagnose conditions.
- If trained by staff education and demonstrates competency, performs IV insertion and maintains IV competency skills on an annual basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- Required: 1 year of related Healthcare experience.
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
- Required: Certified Cardiographic Technologist certification by Cardiovascular Credentialing International BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider, ACLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
