We're looking for a Designer Drafter in our Materials Test division to prepare clear, complete, and accurate design documentation that supports the sale, manufacture, and service of our components, products, and systems.

What You'll Do:

- Work from notes, verbal instructions, sketches, drawings, or engineering specifications to prepare working plans, layouts, and detailed drawings
- Review designs and help resolve details not fully defined, determining the best combination of preliminary information and contributing data for the final design
- Develop specifications, designs, or drawings using engineering principles and established MTS standards, procedures, and instructions, following MTS best practices in the design, layout, and documentation of custom and standard products
- Provide the required level of documentation for custom or standard projects, including models, drawings, assemblies, and Bills of Materials using the CAD system, following MTS CAD Best Practices for model creation, drawing creation, file management, and revision control
- Verify completed work by checking dimensions, Bills of Materials, materials, quantities, processing information, and adherence to best practices
- Make reasonable and sound decisions to meet budgets and deadlines, and provide scheduling, costing, and technical updates to internal departments and external vendors
- Resolve mechanical and fabrication problems with designed or purchased parts, ensuring changes are documented per engineering change procedures
- Develop and maintain effective communication and working relationships across all levels of MTS, providing regular status updates to project team members and supervisors
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or apparent

What You Bring:

- High School Diploma or GED plus an Associate's degree or vo-tech certificate in drafting, design, industrial design, industrial engineering, electronics, or technical illustration and 0-3 years of relevant experience
- Ability to perform detail and layout work on CAD, with willingness to learn other computer skills related to documentation
- Working knowledge of the design process, with the ability to do simple layouts and details and resolve routine questions, referring more complex issues to higher levels
- Ability to work under limited supervision, selecting from a variety of established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks
- Strong working relationships across all levels of employees, with sound decision making to prioritize work and meet deadlines
- Experience with SolidWorks, SAP, SolidWorks PDM, and Microsoft Office Suite preferred

Compensation Information:

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $31.00-$35.00 based on relevant education and experience.
