What this job involves:

As an Assistant Chief Engineer, Data Centers at JLL, you will play a critical role in supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mission-critical data center facilities. Working closely with the Chief Engineer, you will help oversee daily engineering operations, support technical teams, and ensure critical infrastructure systems perform at the highest standards of uptime and operational excellence. This role requires strong technical expertise across electrical and mechanical systems, the ability to respond effectively during critical incidents, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance and continuous improvement. At JLL, we are collectively shaping a brighter way — for our clients, ourselves and our fellow employees — by delivering resilient, innovative solutions within complex critical environments. We believe the most effective teams are built when everyone is empowered to thrive, and this role offers opportunities to strengthen your technical expertise while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing engineering culture.

What your day-to-day will look like:

- Assist in managing day-to-day data center facility operations and maintenance activities to support maximum uptime, operational reliability, and client satisfaction.
- Support the Chief Engineer in supervising and mentoring engineering teams, technicians, and vendors while promoting a strong culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
- Monitor and analyze the performance of critical infrastructure systems including electrical distribution, UPS systems, generators, cooling systems, and building automation platforms.
- Coordinate and support preventative maintenance activities, inspections, and corrective repairs to ensure compliance with operational standards and maintenance schedules.
- Serve as a first point of contact for service-impacting electrical distribution events and assist with troubleshooting, escalation management, and incident mitigation efforts.
- Participate in critical incident response activities, including after-hours support, root cause analysis investigations, and implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support safety initiatives, compliance requirements, infrastructure upgrades, and operational improvement projects.
- Assist with technical reporting, documentation management, operational procedures, and client communications related to facility performance and engineering activities.
- Support capacity planning and infrastructure enhancement projects while embracing more innovative ways of working to improve operational efficiency and long-term reliability.

Required qualifications:

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center operations, mission-critical facilities management, or related engineering environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of data center infrastructure systems including power distribution, cooling systems, UPS equipment, generators, and building automation systems.
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices including ASHRAE, TIA, and Uptime Institute guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex operational issues and respond effectively during critical incidents in high-availability environments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team collaboration skills with the ability to support and mentor technical staff.
- Experience using facility management software, CMMS platforms, and building automation or monitoring systems.
- Valid certification in a relevant discipline such as CDCP, DCPRO, or equivalent technical certification.
- Ability to support after-hours and 24x7 operational response requirements as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally if required.

Preferred qualifications:

- Professional Engineer (PE) license or additional industry certifications related to mission-critical operations.
- Experience supporting sustainability initiatives, energy efficiency programs, or green data center operations.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and experience supporting infrastructure improvement projects.
- Experience working across multiple data center sites or regional operations environments.
- Familiarity with preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for mission-critical infrastructure.
- Strong analytical skills with experience supporting root cause analysis and operational reporting.
- Experience working within client-facing environments with a focus on service delivery and operational excellence.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure operational settings while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Commitment to collaboration, inclusivity, and continuous learning in support of high-performing engineering teams.
