ROLE SUMMARY:
We are seeking an inspiring, enthusiastic, and highly qualified Portuguese Teacher to join our academic team at Vilamoura International School. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality Portuguese language and literature lessons, fostering a deep appreciation for the language among both native and non-native speakers (Portuguese as a Foreign Language - PLE). You will play a key role in a multicultural environment, contributing to the academic excellence and holistic development of our students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching & Learning: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Portuguese lessons tailored to different age groups and proficiency levels (including Portuguese Mother Tongue and Portuguese as a Foreign Language/PLE).
- Curriculum Alignment: Ensure teaching is aligned with both the Portuguese National Curriculum (Ministério da Educação) and international educational standards integrated within the school.
- Assessment & Progress: Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students, providing constructive and timely feedback.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, stimulating, and safe classroom environment that encourages student participation, critical thinking, and mutual respect.
- Parental Engagement: Maintain regular, clear, and professional communication with parents regarding student academic progress and well-being.
- Collaboration & Contribution: Actively participate in staff meetings, professional development training, school events, and cross-curricular activities within the Inspired Group.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Qualifications: University Degree (Licenciatura/Mestrado) in Education, Portuguese Studies, Modern Languages, or a related field, with the mandatory professional qualification to teach in Portugal (Grupo de Recrutamento 200, 300 or equivalent).
- Experience: Proven experience teaching Portuguese in standard schools, ideally within an international or bilingual school environment .
- Language Skills: Native-level Portuguese and fluency in English (essential for staff collaboration, matrix reporting, and community integration).
- Pedagogical Approach: Familiarity with student-centered learning practices, digital educational tools, and differentiated learning methodologies for international students.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, adaptability, and a strong team-player mindset.
