Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Christmas Support Worker provides support to Rainbow Country Church, Community Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis. This includes but is not limited to toys and food hampers, as well as occasional assistance with the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
• Assist in the daily activities of Community Services during the Christmas Season
• Assist with the pick-up of donations from community donors using a program vehicle
• Assist with the physical set up and take down of the Christmas assistance program space(s)
• Provide front line support to guests applying for and receiving Christmas assistance
• Assist with sorting donations
• Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner
• Answer phone inquiries as required
• Work closely with the Community Services Program Coordinator regarding the various Christmas initiatives
• May assist in the Christmas Kettle Campaign where needed
• Perform other position related duties as required
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Internal: Community Services Program Coordinator, Corps Officers, staff, volunteers
External: Community members
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Community Services Program Coordinator.
Direct reports: none.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
• No direct financial responsibilities though may receive monetary donations and must appropriately direct donations in accordance with established procedures.
The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• This is a temporary position
• Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Friday with an occasional Saturday event. Applicable shifts include a 1/2 hour unpaid meal break
• Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements.
• Standing for long periods will be required and exposure to cold weather
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
• Some high school coursework, completion of high school is an asset
Experience:
• One year of related experience or working in customer service
• Money handling experience is an asset
• Related experience is an asset
Skills and Capabilities
• Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle required Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion
• Enthusiastic Team Player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to lift 9 to 12 kgs (20 – 25 lbs)
• Strong customer service skills; enjoy liaising and working with people of all ages and abilities
• Willingness to be flexible and work well under pressure with daily timelines and changing priorities
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.95 to $22.08 with a maximum of $26.20.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
