Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Christmas Kettle Assistant supports the successful operation of the Christmas Kettle Campaign through volunteer recruitment and scheduling, daily kettle operations, and ongoing support of the campaign volunteers, and kettle locations.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
• Recruit, schedule, and maintain regular communication with Christmas Kettle volunteers
• Assist with orientation and provide ongoing support to volunteers
• Maintain the Kettle schedule and respond to cancellations, absences, and changes in coverage
•Make phone calls, send emails, and undertake other recruitment efforts to fill available shifts
• Foster and maintain positive working relationships with Kettle locations
• Coordinate the daily delivery and pick-up of Kettles and related supplies, ensuring the security of donations
• Ensure Kettle locations have adequate supplies, signage, and promotional materials
• Provide kettle coverage as required, including breaks, cancellations, and emergency absences
• Assist with the secure handling and preparation of Kettle donations for processing
• Communicate concerns, scheduling changes, volunteer issues, and operational needs to the Community Services Program Coordinator
• Respond to questions/queries from potential donors regarding SA ministries and programs.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Internal: Community Services Program Coordinator, Corps Officer(s), Staff, and Volunteers
External: Community members
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Community Services Program Coordinator.
Direct reports: none.
Workflow coordinator.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
• Collect donations and petite cash and ensure donations are always kept secure.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Standing for long periods will be required and exposure to cold weather
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
• Some high school coursework, completion of high school is an asset
Experience:
• One year of related experience or working in customer service
• Money handling experience is an asset
• Related experience is an asset
Skills and Capabilities
• Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle required Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion
• Enthusiastic Team Player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to lift 9 to 12 kgs (20 – 25 lbs)
• Strong customer service skills; enjoy liaising and working with people of all ages and abilities
• Willingness to be flexible and work well under pressure with daily timelines and changing priorities
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.95 to $22.08 with a maximum of $26.20.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
