Summary
The Extraction Manager - Processing leads the Extraction operation while helping build a stronger culture of operational excellence, continuous improvement, safety, quality, and team development. This role is responsible for delivering consistent performance across people, process, and product by coaching leaders and operators, strengthening daily management systems, improving standard work, and using data to identify and solve operational gaps. The Extraction Manager - Processing partners cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, EHS, Planning, and People Team partners to support reliable execution, capability-building, and scalable processes that help La Colombe deliver high-quality coffee products.
Responsibilities
Extraction and Continuous Improvement
- Help build and sustain a culture of continuous improvement by identifying waste, simplifying processes, and improving department systems.
- Facilitate or support process improvement activities such as root cause analysis, process mapping, 5S, standard work, Kaizen activity, and change management.
- Translate operational opportunities into practical improvement plans with clear owners, timelines, measures, and follow-up routines.
- Develop and track key performance indicators to measure department performance and improvement progress.
- Support site growth by strengthening scalable processes, role clarity, training systems, and cross-functional communication.
Operational Execution
- Oversee day-to-day department operations to support production schedules, order fulfillment, and business needs.
- Coordinate extraction processing, ingredient flow, inventory accuracy, and department readiness to meet planned production demand.
- Monitor department performance, identify barriers to execution, and drive timely resolution of issues impacting safety, quality, service, cost, or productivity.
- Use operating data, performance records, and daily management routines to identify trends, escalate risks, and improve manufacturing processes.
- Partner with Maintenance and Engineering to support equipment reliability, cleaning, maintenance planning, troubleshooting, and startup readiness.
Standards, Systems, Safety, and Quality
- Ensure department practices follow Good Manufacturing Practices, food safety expectations, SQF standards, EHS requirements, company policies, and applicable regulatory expectations.
- Maintain, improve, and communicate Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, training materials, and process controls for Extraction operations.
- Support routine quality assurance, sensory activities, product checks, and corrective actions in partnership with Quality and Operations leaders.
- Lead and reinforce safe work practices, including equipment safety, sanitation expectations, hazard awareness, and proper use of required personal protective equipment.
- Support audit readiness, documentation accuracy, and consistent execution of department standards.
People and Culture
- Lead, coach, and develop Extraction team members to deliver safe, consistent, and high-quality performance.
- Set clear expectations for daily execution, accountability, communication, and follow-through across the department.
- Build team capability through training, standard work, coaching routines, and performance feedback.
- Promote a positive and respectful work environment through recognition, engagement, and consistent leadership presence on the floor.
- Partner with supervisors, People Team, Training, EHS, Quality, and Operations leaders to support staffing, onboarding, skill development, and employee relations needs.
Requirements
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, operations, engineering, business, food science, or a related field preferred; equivalent food or beverage manufacturing leadership experience may be considered.
- 3–5 years of leadership experience in food, beverage, manufacturing, processing, or related operations.
- Experience leading teams in a production or plant environment with demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and hold teams accountable.
- Working knowledge of GMPs, food safety, SQF or similar quality systems, sanitation, and plant safety practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to use data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities.
- Experience creating, improving, or sustaining standard operating procedures, work instructions, training tools, or process controls.
- Ability to communicate clearly across hourly, salaried, technical, and leadership audiences.
- Strong organization, prioritization, and follow-through skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; SAP or similar enterprise system experience preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support a manufacturing environment, including occasional off-shift, weekend, or holiday support.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with coffee, dairy, beverage, extraction, batching, processing, or related food manufacturing systems.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, root cause analysis, process mapping, change management, or continuous improvement systems.
- Experience supporting scale-up, startup, plant expansion, operational readiness, or major process change.
- Strong facilitation skills with the ability to lead cross-functional problem-solving and improvement work.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust, develop others, embrace change, solve problems, and deliver results.

The salary range for this full-time position is $95,000.00 - $150,700.00, + bonus + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
