About this role

Skyland Trail is a multi-campus, non-profit mental health provider offering diverse services including residential treatment, partial hospitalization programming, intensive outpatient programming, and outpatient care. The Nurse Manager responsibilities include direct patient care through shift coverage and, with the Director of Nursing (DON), management of a team of nurses staffing the residential psychiatric facility. This person should have significant clinical experience and ability to lead others professionally, compassionately, and competently.

Duties:

Clinical Leadership and Nursing Operations

- Provides clinical leadership, supervision, and direction to lead nurses and nursing staff across residential campuses.

- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate safe, patient-centered care.

- Manages nursing department scheduling, PTO requests, staff time and attendance, and communication logs.

- Monitors staffing patterns, agency usage, and supply needs, and communicates operational concerns to the Director of Nursing.

Staff Development and Supervision

- Supports staff orientation, competency validation, education, professional development, and performance coaching in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.

- Trains nurses to triage patient concerns, apply clinical judgment, and coordinate appropriate follow-up with providers, residential counselors, or external resources.

- Promotes effective communication through shift notes, hand-off reports, on-call systems, and interdisciplinary team collaboration.

- Prepares nurses to teach and model recovery-oriented daily living skills, medication box use, and preventive healthcare practices for patients.

- Covers nursing shifts when staffing needs cannot be filled through regular scheduling, internal coverage, or approved supplemental staffing resources.

Patient Care and Clinical Services

- Administers medications, monitors self-administration, receives medication orders within scope of licensure, and communicates medication-related concerns to psychiatrists and medical providers.

- Performs admission evaluations, health screenings, vital signs, weights, specimen collection, injections, and other nursing interventions as clinically indicated.

- Assesses changes in patient condition, initiates appropriate nursing interventions, communicates significant changes, and follows up on emergency, hospital, clinic, and healthcare visits.

- Documents patient responses to care, orients patients and families to nursing services, and supports patients with activities of daily living, interpersonal skills, socialization, and recovery-oriented goals.

- Provides clinical monitoring and support during routine care and crisis situations in accordance with established communication plans.

Medication Management, Safety, and Compliance

- Ensures medication administration, self-administration, storage, documentation, and monitoring practices comply with Skyland Trail policy and applicable regulatory requirements.

- Prepares medication storage areas, medication administration records, controlled substance counts, infection control documentation, and other clinical records for audits and accreditation reviews.

- Monitors temperature checks, chart reviews, hand hygiene logs, and required clinical documentation, and submits results to the Director of Nursing as required.

- Supports regulatory and accreditation readiness, including adherence to Joint Commission standards, OIG requirements, federal, state, and local regulations, the Georgia Nurse Practice Act, and professional nursing standards.

Quality Improvement and Interdisciplinary Collaboration

- Serves as a liaison with community psychiatrists, medical providers, healthcare professionals, and the interdisciplinary team to promote continuity and coordination of care.

- Participates in safety and quality improvement activities, including committee representation, corrective action plan implementation, and identification of opportunities to improve patient safety, clinical outcomes, documentation, medication management, and nursing operations.

- Promotes a safe, healthy, therapeutic environment and a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and patient-centered care.

Administrative and Other Responsibilities

- Works with the Lead Nurses to maintain appropriate inventory of office, medical, and clinical supplies and communicates anticipated needs to the Director of Nursing.

- Communicates significant clinical, staffing, safety, regulatory, and operational concerns to the Director of Nursing in a timely manner.

- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Nursing and/or Chief Medical Officer.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

- A current RN License for Georgia without restrictions

- Minimum of Requirement of BSN

- Minimum of 3-5 years experience in leadership

- Current physical and PPD

- Two years psychiatric nursing experience preferred but not required
