Boring Mill Operator / Programmer
Troy, MI
We're hiring an experienced Boring Mill Operator/Programmer for a manufacturing shop in Troy. You'll set up, program, and run horizontal boring mills on large, high precision parts, from setup through final inspection.
What You'll Do
- Set up and operate CNC horizontal boring mills on large weldments, castings, and fabrications
- Write and edit programs at the control, and prove out new programs
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions to plan setups and machining sequences
- Indicate, square, and fixture large workpieces for accurate setups
- Select tooling, set offsets, and adjust speeds and feeds for best results
- Inspect parts with micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, and height gauges to verify tolerances
- Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments to hold quality and cycle time
- Perform routine machine maintenance and keep your work area clean and organized
- Work with engineering and quality to resolve print or part issues
What You Bring
- 3+ years of experience running horizontal boring mills, with setup experience required
- Ability to program at the control (G and M code); CAM experience (Mastercam or similar) is a plus
- Experience with Fanuc, Heidenhain, or Siemens controls preferred
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Comfortable working with large parts, overhead cranes, and rigging
- Able to work independently and own a job from start to finish
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or machinist apprenticeship a plus
