Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Environmental Technician to join our Environment Business Line in Deepwater, New Jersey . This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional who is interested in building a career in environmental consulting and gaining hands-on experience with environmental investigation, sampling, and remediation projects. You will work alongside experienced Field Technicians, Geologists, Scientists, and Environmental Engineers while supporting a long-term chemical manufacturing client in Southern New Jersey, as well as a variety of other environmental projects throughout the region.

This role is well suited for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is mechanically inclined, and takes pride in collecting accurate field data and solving practical problems. You will receive hands-on training in environmental sampling techniques, field documentation, equipment operation, and health and safety practices while developing the technical skills needed to grow within AECOM's environmental practice.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform routine environmental field activities under the direction of experienced environmental professionals, including groundwater, soil, sediment, and surface water sampling.
- Support environmental investigation, monitoring, and remediation projects for industrial, manufacturing, and other commercial clients.
- Assist with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of field equipment, including pumps, generators, sampling equipment, field instruments, and company vehicles.
- Collect, label, preserve, and document environmental samples in accordance with established procedures and project requirements.
- Maintain accurate field notes, logs, sample documentation, photographs, and other project records.
- Assist with environmental monitoring and remediation activities at active client sites and follow established project procedures.
- Apply mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot field equipment and address routine field challenges.
- Follow AECOM and client health and safety requirements, including site-specific procedures, personal protective equipment requirements, and safe work practices.
- Communicate field observations and project information clearly to project managers, scientists, engineers, and other team members.
- Assist with preparation of field reports, data summaries, and other project documentation.
- Maintain and organize field equipment and supplies to ensure readiness for upcoming field activities.
- Work independently in the field while maintaining communication with project teams and escalating issues when appropriate.
- Participate in cross-training and additional project assignments to expand technical capabilities and gain experience across environmental services.
- Travel to other project locations throughout Southern New Jersey and the surrounding region as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policy
- Must pass applicable State and Federal background checks.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
- Must attend and pass 40-hour OSHA training and physical.
- US Citizenship is a requirement for this role

Preferred Qualifications

- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 2+ years of experience supporting environmental field sampling, investigation, remediation, construction, industrial operations, or related field activities.
- Experience with groundwater, soil, sediment, or surface water sampling.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting pumps, generators, vehicles, field instruments, or other equipment.
- Familiarity with environmental health and safety practices and working at industrial or manufacturing facilities.
- Ability to accurately complete field documentation, logs, forms, and sample records.
- Current OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to learn new environmental field techniques and work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary project team.

Additional Information

- Must be able to travel to various field site locations utilizing a personal, or in some cases, an AECOM company vehicle
