About this role

Company Overview

Docusign brings agreements to life. Over 1.5 million customers and more than a billion people in over 180 countries use Docusign solutions to accelerate the process of doing business and simplify people’s lives. With intelligent agreement management, Docusign unleashes business-critical data that is trapped inside of documents. Until now, these were disconnected from business systems of record, costing businesses time, money, and opportunity. Using Docusign’s Intelligent Agreement Management platform, companies can create, commit, and manage agreements with solutions created by the #1 company in e-signature and contract lifecycle management (CLM).

What you'll do

As a Software Engineer Intern on the Signing Core Backend (SCORE) team, you will help re-architect Docusign's eSign branding capability into a centralized microservice that high-value customers rely on to deliver a consistent brand experience across the Docusign ecosystem. You will work with RESTful and gRPC interfaces so customers can define their brand identity once and reuse it across multiple Docusign products and features, including validating branding configurations before they are applied to accounts. You'll contribute to moving branding compute into a dedicated Azure-hosted service, improving reuse, iteration speed, and support for new enhancements in our Tier-0 branding platform.

This is an internship role for 4 months of duration. This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Manager, Software Engineering.

Responsibility

- Collaborate with the SCORE team to design and implement a centralized branding microservice that powers cross-product brand consistency for eSign and related experiences

- Build and evolve RESTful and gRPC APIs that allow customers and internal services to define, retrieve, validate, and apply branding configurations in a consistent way

- Help migrate branding compute from legacy components into a dedicated Azure-based service, leveraging MSF patterns and standards for reliability and scalability

- Work on features that improve branding validation, so customers can preview and verify their brand setup before it is applied to production accounts, reducing misconfiguration risk

- Implement unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure branding APIs and workflows are robust, observable, and safe for Tier-0 production use

- Partner with adjacent product and engineering teams that consume branding data (e.g., other signing surfaces and services) to support reuse and consistent experiences across products

- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and sprint ceremonies; incorporate feedback from your mentor and teammates to grow your engineering skills

- Write clear documentation for services, APIs, and operational runbooks to support long-term maintainability and broader adoption

- Experience with core computer science concepts such as data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design

- Experience with web services concepts (HTTP, REST) and basic API design

- Availability to participate in Docusign's 12-week hybrid internship program based in the Seattle hub, including required in-office days per program policy

Preferred

- Coursework or project experience in distributed systems, microservices architecture, or backend service development

- Exposure to cloud platforms (preferably Azure) and concepts like deployment pipelines, monitoring, and scalability

- Experience building or consuming APIs using REST; familiarity with gRPC or other RPC frameworks

- Experience with relational or NoSQL data stores, and awareness of data modeling concerns for multi-tenant services

- Prior internship, research, or significant project experience working on production-adjacent systems or developer platforms
