Part B: Cover letter (no longer than one page) that includes information about why you want to serve on the Highland Youth City Council. If you have previously served on the council, the letter should include how you contributed during your service and what changes you hope to see in the upcoming term. (Please submit this as your resume)

Part C: Deadline: Applications are due by December 1, 2026. All youth who complete all requirements will be notified by the end of December. Our new Youth City Council members will serve the term beginning January 4, 2027, and ending August 7, 2027. Seniors who are appointed to Youth City Council will have terms that run through the end of the school year.

Additional content:

The Highland City Youth Council consists of 15-18 youth working with Highland City to serve and strengthen the community. Council members meet monthly to plan activities and are responsible for leading at least one event during the year. Meeting times will be set based on the council's schedule after selection.

Your term will consist of 12 months beginning January and ending December of 2027. You will be asked to attend 80% or more of the monthly council meetings, retreats, training, and activities. Youth Council should be looked at as a commitment and desire to improve the city through your service as well as yourself in the areas of leadership and governmental knowledge. If attendance of 80% and/or assigned duties are not being met, you may be asked to step down.

Roles for this year's term:

- Youth City Council Mayor
Leads the council, runs meetings, represents the Youth City Council at events, and helps guide projects.

- Youth City Council Deputy Mayor
Assists the Mayor, steps in when the Mayor is unavailable, and helps lead meetings and activities.

- Youth City Council Recorder
Takes notes during meetings, keeps track of decisions and projects, and helps maintain council records.

- Youth City Council Deputy Recorder
Supports the Recorder, helps with note-taking, and ensures meeting information is organized.

- Youth City Council Treasurer
Manages council funds, helps with budgeting for events, and reports on financial updates.

- Youth City Council Deputy Treasurer
Assists the Treasurer, helps track money and expenses, and supports financial planning.

- Youth City Council Service & Events Chair (2 positions)
Plans service projects and events, coordinates volunteers, and helps make council activities fun and meaningful.

Expectations for Council Members:

- Demonstrate exemplary conduct inside and outside council meetings.

- Attend and actively participate in all meetings and service projects.

- Lead at least one service project.

- Commit to serving from January 4 to August 7, 2027.

Cost : $100 per member for the year, covering council shirts, a spring youth leadership conference, a fall retreat, and transportation. Please make checks payable to Highland Youth City Council.

The council will include a leadership team with roles for mayor, deputy mayor, events, government, and service chairs, as well as positions for secretary, communications officer, and recorder. Interviews for these roles will be held after the council is selected.
