POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in the area of Piano Pedagogy. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have earned a doctoral degree in Piano Pedagogy, or a closely related area, with a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research (including creative professional activities/practice) and teaching in piano pedagogy. Candidates must have an established international reputation. We seek candidates whose research and teaching complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths .
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of achievement that could include: performances for major venues, organizations, and festivals; collaborations with established artists and ensembles; public presence through broadcasts, recordings, and media platforms; presentations at significant academic or professional conferences; publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals; awards and accolades; arts and/or research grants; the submitted research statement; other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, and strong endorsements from referees.
Evidence of teaching excellence will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (including the required materials outlined below), and strong letters of reference.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Candidates will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research (including creative professional activities/practice), and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. In addition, the successful candidate will be assigned a teaching and service load. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in piano pedagogy and related areas, including one-on-one performance lessons and masterclasses; and research supervision and mentoring of students at the masters and doctoral levels.
HIRING SALARY RANGE
The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The upper end of the salary range for this position exceeds $200,000 CAD per annum.

The Faculty of Music is a division of Canada’s largest university, located in one of the world’s most diverse cities. The Faculty of Music offers graduate (MMus and DMA) degrees in piano pedagogy, piano performance, and collaborative piano, as well as an undergraduate degree in piano performance.
